My laptop was running vista, and a computer tech changed it to windows 7.
I bring the laptop home and I can't connect to any networks. "no connections avaliable".
I could connect to the Internet fine before when my laptop had Vista.
    Help please

Welcome to Computer Help Forums, Tara!

Is this a wireless connection that you cannot make or are we talking about a hard wired connection from your modem/router? We can help you either way but need to know what kind of help you need.:)

Assuming that you were able to connect wirelessly before then you must have a router although it may be a modem/router supplied by your Internet Service Provider. There must be a "box" probably with an antenna or two and some lights can you look at that and tell us what the make and model is?

You need to set up a new connection or reset your old one. Did your old wireless network have a name that you would recognize?

How do I set up a new connection? Yes there was a name on the wireless network, but now there is nothing there. The wireless networks all apperared before when I had vista. I bought the laptop used and the same day I bought it, I came home and connected to my network instantly.

First lets make sure that your wireless adapter on the laptop is enabled. Do you have the little icon that looks like phone bars on your taskbar near the clock?

Nope. I have a square box with a red X in it and when I put the mouse over it, it says "not connected-no connections are avaliable"

OK go to the "Start" menu and go to the search bar. Type "Network and sharing center" (You probably wont have to type much more than "Network and" before you see the "Wirelss and Network Center" appear at the list that will form. Click on it and open it. Select "Change adapter settings" on the left when that opens you should see at least one icon for "Wireless Network Connection" make certain that it does not say disabled. If it does then right click on it and select "enable" that may not solve your connection problem but if it is enabled you should be able to find your old connection or at least create a new one.

If it is not disabled then we need to resolve the issue another way.

Can I take it from what you said that it was, in fact, disabled? Also, if that is true, when you click on the icon with the red x (basic left click) does anything pop up at all? Also, if you did have to enable the adapter it may be a good idea to reboot the computer before you connect. If none of that shows anything we may need to see if your drivers are up to date by going into the Device Manager and checking for any warnings.

No it was enabled already. When I click on the icon a box comes up and says no connections are avaliable. Not connected. I've been in device manager, and it says the best driver for your device is already installed.

There is something that confuses me here. That router has to connect to a modem of some kind by way of an ethernet cable. That would be the modem. Can you take a look at whatever the router is connected to and see if it is actually lit up?

Following the advice that Allheart has given should work but only if the router is getting a signal though its ethernet connection.

The TP-Link TLWR340G is actually a modem/router combination. Have you connected the notebook via
ethernet cable to the router to see if you can access the internet using a wired connection?

The Easy Setup Assistant will actually walk you through the proper settings for a wireless configuration
    step by step.

The issue here has nothing to do with my router. I know that because I bought the laptop used, came home, and was on the Internet within 2 minutes of buying it. I didn't have to fuss with my router at all.
Even if I take the laptop to a spot with free wifi I don't get any networks to choose from. So it's a setting on the laptop, not the router.

If you are sure your wireless card is enabled and you don't show any yellow bangs in Device Manager
your wireless card may have failed. Try connecting the laptop via ethernet cable to the router to
access the internet. Once you have an internet connection open a command prompt. Click on Start > All
Programs and select Accessories. Under Accessories right click command prompt and select Run as
Administrator. In the command prompt box type the following command: ipconfig /flushdns. When the
cache has been flushed continue with the following command: ipconfig /renew. Copy and paste the results
    in your reply.
