    Hi there.
My windows 10 computer will turn on, and when I open the slide to enter my password, it either works fine, or takes about an hour to load the password screen. After I wait and log in, I get a black screen for an hour and a half or so. Then after that it loads up my desktop. Anything I click on (Browser, files, application etc.) Won't open for about 30 minutes. Then when it does open it will give "not responding" for another hour. If I try to use the task bar to switch tabs or open something else up, that will do the same thing. I've tried running my antivirus and clearing up file space and restarting my computer. I've defragmented the drive and all of that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled programs. Nothing seems to be working. Can anyone help me with this?

Due to the slowness of the computer and my lack of knowledge, I cannot accurately find out. I do know this computer has been around my house hold for about 5or6 years give or take

With Windows 10, getting into Safe Mode has changed. See the link I gave to a Microsoft page.

Although somethings won't open because it's in safe mode, it does seem to bee going faster

Is it as fast as it should be in Safe Mode?

Then there's something that's loading at startup causing it to slow down. Search for Task Manager. Use it to turn off startup items until you find the one(s) that are causing the slow down.

I will boot it up, try to get it running, and get back to you with an answer. Thank you so much for the help right now!

Is this something that just started happening or after you upgraded to Windows 10?

What changes did you make or what was the system doing just prior to this happening? Software, updates, installs, hardware changes...

I've had windows 10 since it came out and all the windows 7 computers got the free upgrade. This problem started about a week ago and there was nothing installed or changes made prior to that. It just happened when I turned on the computer and it started being rely slow. First it started every time I used Firefox. Then it pretty much went to the rest of the computer when I tried to close out of it. I have run both the windows defender and zone alarm but they said no viruses were detected.

Just to clarify ever since you had Firefox or just recently?

    Have you tried refreshing Firefox?
Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Have you checked the Services and program that are loading on the affected system?

I've had Firefox since I got the computer some time ago. It was there when I got windows 10 and it worked fine. I uninstalled it and Google chrome (because that was one of the programs that auto started) but the problem still remains.

Have you tried rolling back to a date that was before this started?

There are a few things that come to mind.
Even though your AV scanners do not report anything you can have our Security Team check.

    HDD failure.
To perform a CHKDSK scan VIA the Command Prompt

    Please download MiniToolBox from here:

    Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
    List Devices
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
    List Minidump Files
    List Restore Points

Click Go and post the result MTB.txt. A copy of MTB.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and past the results of the file.

I am not in a position to do the scan right now but I don't think I can roll back because I have not set a restore point. I think that's what it told me
