Is there a free version of Win 10 that does not need a product key if you have a Win 8 product key?
What I mean is, I used to have Win 8 on my machine and I have a product key for that. Because I have the product key I was able to upgrade to Win 10 for free. But the repair man put Win 10 pro on my machine, the try-out version apparently, because I keep getting notices that my version of Win will expire soon every time I boot up. Would I still be able to use that Win 8 product key and use the Media Creation tool to upgrade to Win 10?

W10 should have activated on your machine when you keyed in the W8 Product Code.

Most home computers have the home edition of w8/w10. You can't activate the home version with a pro key and vice versa.

Does your w8 product key say home edition?

If the computer guy put windows pro on it and you had windows home you will need to buy a product key for pro. The other option is to format the hard drive and reinstall windows 10. It should activate with the original digital key when you upgraded to windows 10 from 8.

The Win 8 product code worked even on my Win Pro Version. I plugged it in and it activated just fine.
    Thank You.

Update: Nope, I was wrong. I had Win 10 Home Single Language after all. I guess that's why the product code worked.
    Thanks again.

Glad you got it resolved. Hope that repair man didn't charge much.
