My brand new work laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 500S) which was purchased in February has WiFi issues. It initially did this a couple of weeks after I got it (march), then it was ok for 3 months then started again. Is it a virus issue? McAfee has told me to contact my service provider - which is every café, shopping centre etc I have tried to connect with.

At home the Wifi works fine, it just disconnects once in a while but if I try to connect to any other Wifi it will disconnect after about a minute then disappear all together from the Laptop.

The Wifi keeps logging off and disappearing all together from the Network and Internet settings panel - only Airplane Mode comes up on the Taskbar. I then have to do a system restore which restarts the same as above again.

    Any help much appreciated!

See if a network adapter driver update is needed.

    Welcome trev,

Considering that your computer stays connected at home indicates that the computer is operating properly. So why is it not staying connected when you're at public access points you ask.

When you do the system restore, is there a particular restore point that you use? I'm wondering if just restarting the computer might get you back on line. Have you tried that?

Many so-called public access points (PAP) still require you to login to their network system.

This is what happens at Starbucks, you have to logon to the Starbucks network first. With my iPhone I have to go via Settings/WiFi to logon, on my Ubuntu laptop I just open Firefox (Google home page), and I am switched to the Starbucks network and I'm in.

Then again many, many PAPs are very poor. So the problem MAY not be your rig.

    I'm inclined to agree.
My phone and Tablet have no problems at home, but if I'm trying to connect to a public access point I have all sorts of problems.

The public wifi's around here will drop at any time. Especially when a higher up government official is in town. So yeah agreeing with the others your laptop is probably working as it should.

thanks for the replies. It wasn't to do with PAP's, my iPhone would connect fine. It was disappearing at work and other places I had logged on before. The Wifi icon would disappear completely from the settings panel and taskbar.

I've since updated the drivers (thanks bassfister6522) - it seems to be working ok now, cross fingers.

    Welcome Hussian,

Whilst we do appreciate replies/input from members........ please read the thread properly before replying.
The problem had already been rectified.

Replying to a thread that has had no replies for 10 weeks is a bit pointless really.
