I just bought a new pc and bought a wifi card for it. The pc came with a 500 gb hdd which works fine when I plug in the usb wifi receiver I bought, but when I put my ssd drive in it from my old laptop which is a samsung pro 256 gb, the wifi card will not work. It keeps on cutting in and out on the pc, - it finds it, then cuts it out like you just umplugged it, - It finds the wifi card and then opens the wifi networks then just closes it and the wifi settings page in the control menu - the wifi signal appears, then it goes back straight away to the landline icon with the red cross on it ! and keeps making that sound that your computer makes when you put in and take out a device from the usb port. It keeps doing this over and over It is really frustrating I have tried completely reinstalling windows 10 and the same thing still happens, so I do not understand this. It works fine in the hdd but not in the ssd... !!! Quite weird to me, but I am sure there is a logical explanation for this.. does anyone know what to do please? I really want to use my ssd instead of the hdd. Thank you.

    Hello and welcome.

USB ports are limited as to how much power they can supply. The spec is 500 mA. It may be difficult to power both the SSD and WiFi card. Try using other USB ports. Maybe plug the SSD into USB ports on the back of the machine and plug the WiFi card into a USB port on the front of the machine.

What make/model are the Machine and SSD?

The ssd is a samsung 840 ssd pro series 256 gb, the motherboard is an asrock FM2A88-HD+

I have tried putting the wifi usb card in every usb port, I also just hardwired a connection straight to the
router and it works like that, so I guess the issue is just with the wifi.

If you have an empty slot in the system look into getting a WiFi Card.

So the problem is that the usb port is continually dropping in and out. There are 2 solutions offered in this youtube video here: I have tried both of them and neither of them work. Does anyone know what else I could try?

Apparently some ssd's and hdd's have weird settings where they do not go together well with certain usb devices... I have just come across threads that have gone on for years still to today on this same topic... thought this would have been resolved once and for all !! lol. It has only happened with the wifi card, not the mouse, keyboard or phone, so I might just have to get another wifi card, damn it though $20 down the drain and I don't like leaving these matters unresolved...

I looked up the power spec for you samsung 840 ssd pro series 256 gb. It uses only 0.15W. The USB port should be able to handle that easily. Try another WiFi network adapter.

If you just installed the drive expecting it to run properly and are using it as the primary drive unfortunately it wont. The OS and software that is installed on the SSD that you removed form that laptop is configured for the Laptop. The new system has new hardware and need to have the OS and Drivers installed for that system.

You will need to preform a fresh install of the OS and Drives on the SSD for the new system.

That is due to the fact the this HDD has the OS installed and proper drivers for the system.

Have you removed the HDD and only have the SSD installed?

How are you attempting the reinstall? Wiping all the partitions and allowing windows to recreate them in other words fresh install may be best.

There may be setting that need to be configured differently in the BIOS.
