Here is my favourite FREE security software, which one do you think is best?

Avast Free Is an excellent free antivirus that is very popular. The antivirus detection rates is on par with AntiVir and Microsoft Security Essentials. Avast has the most features.

Avira Anti Virus personal edition Free AntiVir is very light on resources and the detection rate of malware is outstanding, better than almost every other antivirus according to tests.

Microsoft Security Essentials Has good detection rates, particularly for rootkits. Even more impressive is that Security Essentials has very few false positives, is light on resources and is good at removal of existing malware.

But overall MSE does it for me I would recommend this to anyone, so why not try it yourself and feel free to leave comments about any of the above about your experiencies with either of these security software's.

So there is my list of my favourite Security programs, which one do you think is the best?

I personally won't use a free antivirus program. My preference is Eset Nod32.
I have been installing Microsoft Security Essentials for customers who prefer
or cannot afford a paid antivirus. It seems to work well. No complaints.....yet.

I also use and recommend Superantispyware as well as Malwarebytes for an
added layer of protection against malware and spyware.

I ticked MSSE as i use this on my Vista m/c.
On saying that, i use Avira on my XP m/c.

I personally have never had a problem with either and have never been let down.
I did use Avira Premium Security Suite for a couple of years ( as i used to get a free license from them) but to be honest, i've never seen much difference between the free version and the paid version.
In terms of AV performance that is.

I have been a free Avast advocate for many years, with paid versions of SAS or MBAM, and Windows Firewall.

However, I now use MSSE on 3 machines. Early days but no complaints so far.

Anything without real time protection is no use IMHO.

    Cheers

I used to use the paid M$ OneCare, and never had any issues, when it then became MSE for free, you can't go wrong.

I am just waiting for the server version to be finalised before using them too.

ESET is a very good suite, (as far as the best) but in my opinion, my router has SPI and 2 firewalls, and I still have the windows firewall running on each of the PCs and MSE across various OS's from XP to W7 never had issues with any of them...

My setup is a bit more complex than most have at home though :)

I once flew Daves computer on a transatlantic flight. Not as Fast as Continental but far easier going through customs. :D

I switched to Avast from F-Secure because it would not run on Windows 7 when 7 first was released.
Antimalware: SuperAntispyware (paid version) and Malwarebytes.

    I havnt tried MSE yet.
