I am getting confused. How does one tell what browser they even have, or which search engine? The names sound similar and I am not even sure anymore. Every screen seems filled with ads and come-ons no matter which I go to.

My browsers are down in my quick launch bar. browsers.jpg Vivaldi, Firefox and Palemoon. Palemoon has a box around it because it is currently open.
The search box shows an icon

    DDGsearch.jpg DuckDuckGo

Your screens are filled with ads because you don't have an ad-blocker installed.

Trouble never ends. Had to reset password and login for another account I had just straightened all that out with. Then tried to use Firefox 83.0. First it required me to create a username and password. Then it said I must download 2 more devices from store and create logins and log in to them. That is simply too much bother. I do not believe anything is secure and it is just a gimmick to make you buy all sorts of extra stuff and waste your time with the illusion of safety. I just uninstalled Firefox and went back to the Google Chrome I had been using. Not saying security issues do not exist but I have always had more problems having more security and never had any security issues since beginning computers in 1998 when I knew the least and things were not nearly so secure. Security is more of a problem than doing without. I take risks every day and have no security to protect me. I will stay with my Chrome and I told them that. I used to be happy with Firefox but I guess it quit working when new ones were created. I then went to Chrome.
Meanwhile I went into settings and made sure my Chrome was default and that popup and ad blockers were turned on.

    Firefox has never done that!

Okay, I'm confused. You said you use Windows 7. There is no Store for Windows 7; that is part of Windows 10. You said your wife uses Windows 10.

I think it had to do with syncing to other devices which I do not need to do and have never done. Meanwhile I am still getting loads of pop-up ads from Honey and other places almost every page I go to on Chrome.
Where can I download ad blockers and pop-up blockers that will stop these? . Followed web search direction for turning on blockers in Chrome and they seem to be set to block. Never had all these before going to that sewing site. Lots of new strange stuff going on.

You messed up something. Pick one browser and stick with it. Let's use Chrome.

In Chrome, go to Settings, Advanced, Reset & Cleanup, Chose Reset settings to their original defaults.

Restart Chrome. Then add back the uBlock Origin.
I like Web Of Trust. Go to https://www.mywot.com/ and add that extension.

    Then don't mess with things.

I think I succeeded with this. Used to have web of trust but not seen in awhile. It says there is a charge for it? Do not remember that before. I do not see uBlock Origin anywhere.

Maybe I should try Firefox again?

Thanks, Cindy. I MAY already have it but do not know where to look to see. Have not found it yet. Where does it appear??? On Windows 7 Home Premium?
When I search it says uBlock Origin for Firefox addonsmozilla.com. Not sure why I do not have Firefox anymore. Have Chrome right now.

SUCCESS ! Got a new Firefox and added uBlock Origin to both. Will try for awhile. It said it was disabled in Chrome . Now it is there and the icon is visible on both Firefox and Chrome.
