strange. apparently my auto-update is not working because my firewall [ca
security suite] won't let update through, even though i'm pretty sure i put
in an exception. irrespective, i've shut off that firewall and tried a
manual update. it took ages to download--i'm pretty sure it is service pack
2, as it was 348mb, but when it went to install, nothing happened--it looked
like it was trying to, but no progress. that is when update is accessed
through my programs after hitting 'start'. now, if i access update through
'tools' in internet explorer, it shows a different thing--the pre-dl,
pre-install 'check for updates'. when i try to check, i get the above error
message, which, of course, is not addressed in 'help' and i end up here as no
    other help seems to exist.
sorry if i'm hard to understand--this has been going on for a while and i'm
just really frustrated. what do i do?? thanks in advance!!
