[Vista HP 32] automatic update on but 'never' performed

Discussion in 'Browser Issues' started by Lok Bahadur KC, Oct 24, 2009.

  1. On my Vista HP 32bit OEM Preinstall on a Dell Laptop the automatic updates
are turmed on, but in the details it shows it never run and never updated
    nothing. [IMG]
There is no .net or SP installed.
After the expiration of a trial version of AntiVirus I uninstalled it, but
now it refuses to install a regular one.
I checked with MBAM, Online-Kaspersky - and others and no virus, Trojan or
    else was detected.
What can be blocked, to get the update running?

    Cheers,
    KC

You broke a cardinal rule of computer security: You should have uninstalled
the free-trial and installed a replacement anti-virus application *before*
    the free-trial expired.

Your best plan of action now is to back-up any personal data (none of which
should be considered 100% trustworthy at this point) then do a format &
clean install of Windows. Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place
    upgrade) will NOT fix this!

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so
take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting
the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key that
    isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:

5 steps to help protect your new computer before you go online

NB: When you reinstall Windows, the AV free-trial will probably also
reinstall. It will be INVALID and should be removed ASAP & before you
install the replacement AV. If it's a Norton free-trial, see
    .
    If it's a McAfee free-trial, see
    (Steps #1 and #2
    only).
