    Hi
The pc involved is an Acer Aspire. My win 10 has gotten slower and slower until it [the cursor] will not stop spinning. If I wait long enough, say a few minutes, whatever I am trying to use like chrome will come up. Seeing how slow it is, I ran my virus program and emptied the caches. That made no difference, so I ran win reset and started from scratch. That did not work either, and it continues to run slow and the cursor spins. The pc has 1 tb of memory and runs on 4 gigs of Ram. I just do not know if it is software or hardware. The last time it ran well was March 15th and I made no major changes since then. Thanks for any help I can get.

Sounds like it may be the hard drive. How old is the hard drive?

4 GB of RAM is going to be slow for Windows 10. You should dd more RAM.
Did the aspire come with 10 or did you upgrade it from 7?

I upgraded it from win 8. It only recently started being slow. The computer and hard drive is six years old and is mechanical, not SSD.

plodr mentioned that 4 GB RAM is not much to run Windows on nicely. That's true, however, the 4 GB RAM is not new, but the slowness is new. I'd rule out the RAM.

The hard drive is at an age where they sometimes slow down.

I'd like to know what you meant by
Was the drive totally wiped or what? If it was totally wiped and followed by a fresh install of Windows, replace the drive. If it wasn't totally wiped, then remnants of old system which may be causing the slowness are still on the machine.

I agree, I suspect the hard drive is the issue, especially given its age.

No, it wasn't totally wiped. So, should I delete win.old?

Deleting win.old won't help because those files are not active.
When you "reset' windows, were you given the option to keep personal files and programs. If you were given that option and if you kept the programs, one of them MAY be the culprit.

Starbuck will look thru the reports to check to see if there is something malicious in there.

Actually, my Win antivirus found the malware and eliminated it. The pc runs fine and very fast now. Thanks for all the help. Take care.

Nice, what antivirus are you running? What did it find?

Not running anything special, just what came with Windows, I think it's called Defender? Don't know what it was, as the antivirus deleted it. Thanks.

OK, just be careful when clicking on links and when downloading software. When downloading and installing software you may be presented with an "Easy Install" or usually in smaller type and "Advanced or Custom Install" option. Hidden in the Easy Install option may be other software that will come along with the software you really want to install. So don't use the Easy Install button.

As a matter of fact, I need to download a freeware VOB video player, but I am not sure which one or even if I should try at this point. I better ask you and be safe. Thanks.

I agree, VLC LAN Player is the best free one.

Yes, I do have VLC, but it will not play VOB files, and they are the ones that make up a large proportion of my movies. That is why I went on the net to find a VOB player, but am hesitant to download one.

I looked up VLC and you are right, it apparently does play VOB also. [VLC Media Player is a free VOB file player on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. It works cross-platform to support over 100 video and audio formats, so that you can open the media files portably. Compatible with almost all video and audio formats, including VOB, AVI, MKV, etc.]
So I guess that means I did something wrong with some files.
What I did was to copy a video from one external hard drive to a 2T USB drive. The video would not play even with VLC, but it plays fine on the external HD. So maybe the drag and drop copy method was not a good choice?

Can someone suggest a good safe freeware download of a recorder I could use on YouTube to download videos?
