I am getting constant pop-ups saying my Windows 7 is no longer supported, I would like to know if I should upgrade to Windows 8, and if so! ....will I have to purchase the upgrade?

Windows 8 is no longer supported. Just update to Windows 10. No purchase is necessary. It works best with at least 8 GB RAM, but it will run on only 4 GB.

    Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

There's an 'Update Now' button you can try. Myself, I click on the 'Download now' button to download the creation tool which allows you to create a W10 install USB drive. Once the tool is downloaded, follow instructions to create a USB install drive.

Once you've created USB drive media, boot your computer as you normally do. Insert the USB drive. Navigate to the USB drive and double click in the Setup.exe file. That initiates the update process. It'll ask if you want to keep your apps and files or if you want to wipe and start everything fresh.

Yes Thank You! my only problem with windows 10 is, I have an old version of photoshop 7.0 that might not run on 10 they say on google it will! but it also contains an upgrade to CS 2, which does not get good running reviews on windows 10! that is my problem! Is it possible to just continue with Windows 7?

Sure, you can continue to use Windows 7. Just know that there are no more security updates for it. So it's more venerable than Windows 10 or 11 to malware. Stay away from doing anything sensitive on it i.e. banking, etc.

Also, Chrome is no longer supported on W7. Move to Firefox.

Where are you getting these popups?

We have four Windows 7 computers, three of which are used daily. We see no such popups.

Thank You Tony D! I'm going to just use that PC for photoshop work , and other non security things! For banking I will only use my Windows 10 PC, I did not realize there would be a security risk!

Same with Google’s Chrome browser - it’s not supported on W7. If you’re using Chrome, switch to Firefox.

I don't use Chrome; I use Brave for some sites. I get a bar at the top telling me Windows 7 is unsupported and to upgrade. I simply click on the X and read the site I want.

My daily browser is FF but it is slow at times. I don't get any notice on my google drive in FF.
I opened up another tab in Brave for gmail and google drive and I get no popups there either. I suspect when I Xed out the notice about Windows 7 not supported, I won't see it again until I close the browser and start a new browsing session.

Opera is still supported on W7. I expect support for W7 will end sometime this year.

No browser or OS is 100% safe. If you're going to do banking on a computer, I recommend using a bank that offers 2-factor authentication (2FA). It's your best bet to ensure a safe banking experience.

Yes I already do that with my Bank! I thought they could intercept transactions as I was online!

    Great

We can't be sure that they can't intercept transactions. Communications should be encrypted, but who knows if they haven't broken the code.

Best defense is knowing what to not click on.

    I’ll mark this “Solved”.
