Thanks for that tip Ken. They recently bought me a new computer at work and it came with Win 8. To be honest, I really don't like it much and I had a hell of time, trying to figure it out at first. :(

Thanks again Ken, that will definately help me. I guess I really haven't given it a chance. I am so busy at work these days, I just don't get the time to play with it. I am not really ready for a new O/S at home yet as I have only had Windows 7 Ultimate for a year now and I like it a lot. :fshsml:

I just don't like the fact that Win 8 does not have a start menu, just can't seem to get use to that. So, I installed a third party start menu and that helped. :D

Windows 8 is only Windows 7 hidden in a Haystack. A navigation knightmare till you get used to it.
I have had Windows 8 for a long time. I am sick of it to be honest.
Just change the navigation and a huge earner for Microsoft.
The benefits don't justify me sticking with Windows 8.
A number of my friends are removing Windows 8 and going back to Windows 7.
    They are the smart ones.

Well, I think Win 7 is the absoulte best O/S that Microsoft has come out with and I hated XP with a passion. I had Vista home premium and I liked it a lot as well. The critics really cut it up but I liked the software. The only thing that I didn't like about it, was that it was a RAM hog. I had to go out and buy another stick once I installed it because I couldn't seem to multitask with one stick of RAM. Windows 7 to me is just like Vista say with a service pack 3. I don't give a monkeys as to what the critics said, I liked it.

    Cheers: :fshsml:

There are aspects of Windows 8 that I really like such as the boot time. I'm running a dual boot with Windows 7 & 8. When I boot to Windows 8 I get to a desktop in half the time.

Rich, you CAN have a Start Menu in Windows 8, I used one for a while when it it was RC. Yes, it was a third party app but was the Start Menu and worked pretty well. I decided that by installing a Start Menu I wasn't really seeing Windows 8 as it is intended so got rid of it. After about a week I kind of noticed that I didn't really miss it at all.

Here, in my opinion, is where Windows 8 fails... media. No native ability to play a DVD movie??? Get real! Of course that is easily remedied with or without Media Center but REALLY??? No DVD playback ability??? I don't get that at all.

As much as this surprised me I do believe that Windows 8 does run faster than 7, at least it seems to. I do know, and could easily document, that with either a cold boot or resume from hibernation Windows 8 gets to a desktop MUCH faster than Windows 7.

Soooo, since I'm dual booting between the two, what do I usually boot to, Windows 7. I will say that that is ONLY due to two factors. 1) My lap top currently is serving as a work unit and entertainment center. Windows 7 is just plain better than 8 with media. 2) The laptop is connected via HDMI to a HDTV. Since I will be building a system for the purpose of being connected to that TV I really don't want to have to redo settings for both operating systems. Before connecting to the HDTV I was booting almost exclusively to Windows 8.

Here is the really big question; would I recommend Windows 8? Yes, I really would but with a qualifier. To be honest this is the same advice that I have given through many OS changes over the last 30 or so years. If you are running a system that has an OS that is still being supported as to things like Windows Updates stay with it unless there is something about the new OS that will bring specific and definable benefits. If you are buying a new system get it with the newest OS unless there are known and CONFIRMED issues with that OS. The reason I emphases 'CONFIRMED' is Vista. It got a LOT of unjust bad exposure. It is not a bad OS. It is a hardware and RAM intensive OS but that does not mean that it is bad. The reason that Vista got such a bad reputation is that it was installed on way too many systems that did not qualify to run the thing. There were new machines being sold with Vista and only 1gig of RAM. Vista WILL run very well on 1gig but you better know what you are doing. I ran it on an AMD Athalon 64 system running at 2GHz. with only 1gig RAM and it did very well. I also had the knowledge to be able to tweak it by killing processes and start-ups. The average user cannot do this and would suffer with the same system.

The best OS MS has put out... Win 8 is too new to even consider and will probably not be the best after it has been around the block. I went for MANY years claiming that Windows 2000 Pro was the best MS ever did. I fought tooth and nail resisting going to XP. After using it for quite a while XP proved to be fairly stable and decent, still not in contention as the best. Vista, on the right machine was actually fairly good but not the best by a long shot. Without a doubt, in my opinion, Windows 7 is the best that MS has done

You make some interesting points, Jay.
I am disappointed in a lot of areas also.
Windows 8 hasn't lived up to my expectations.
    Windows7 does everything I need.
I still play with Windows8 when I am bored.:)
