thread solved button

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone has thought of adding a thread solved button so that when the problem has been fixed or correctedn then the person who started the thread and is satisfied that their problem has been resolved, they can mark the thread solved. I am sure this has been brought up before at some point but I am just curious.

 

We have discussed something similar but felt that it would lead to confusion unless every solved thread was marked. In addition it may tend to discourage questions if a solution is not fully understood or explained.

 

also, it was decided that it wouldn't actually accomplish much, as the person starting the thread would surly know when the problem was solved, and would ether say thank you or just disappear, the latter leaving a problem of what to do with an unconfirmed solved thread

but if you would like to post your views on marking threads solved feel free, and we will have the discussion in public with members input as it your site as much ours,

 

Hi Match, I was just curious about it. My main reason for thinking that the solved button was handy was so if the thread was marked solved, other members would not keep replying to a solved thread. But I guess if People keep responding to a thread after the problem has been fixed then the thread starter or whomever can just unsuscribe from the thread. Not that there is anything wrong with continuing to post in the same thread after a problem is solved. Opinions and ideas are always healthy in my book.

 

Their is also the possibility that a problem may have more than one solution, or may re-occur

I've seen it done on other forums, and at first glance it does look impressive, but IMO the key word is 'Look' and while the forum is quiet then is quite easy to do and manage, but as a forum get successful and grows you then have the possibility of having someone doing nothing but managing that part of the forum.

 

ya, I guess with all that being said, sometimes its best not to fix something when it is working good eh

 

The whole subject just came up last week so if anything you are current!

The main thing is that you are involved and that is great!!!!!! It is not just staff that decides things on our own. Members views are appreciated and wanted. Thanks Rick.

 

there are similar ideas on Microsofts own forums where anyone can mark a post as 'mark post as solution' and it shows in a different colour this does not stop people posting after it, but makes people reading aware that it has been solved
