Hi I'm new here and hope someone can answer my query?

Can surge protector adapters prevent proper connection to the internet? I ask cos I'm having trouble with my net connection now and it wasn't a problem before - not that I know of anyway.

    Hi Paula.
    Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
Cheap and nasty Surge protectors, can cause the intermittent connections with the modems.
By pass your surge protector for a short time, and test.
Also pull the power wire to your modem for 30 secs, put the power wire back, then see if your internet improves.

Thanks for replying. I'm hoping to try an ordinary adaptor to see if it is that but when I asked son he had to go out. I've had the surge protector for longer than my pc - maybe it's on its last legs as well techy wise!

I've had a bit of a fight as to why I can't get on net properly on my pc with the providor and have had no less than 7 excuses why and this was the last one. I think its main socket for many reasons but I'll see what happens when I can get son to change adapter. Thanks again.

    Hello Paula.

There are many reasons why you may have problems getting online, and a surge protector would be the most improbable reason.

Given you've contacted your internet service provider on numerous occasions, I suspect they sent a signal to your modem / router to confirm that it is working, as this would be one of their common troubleshooting steps.

Are you connecting by wire or wireless to your internet, and do have any other computers, tablets, or smart phones in the household that can connect? If so, then the problem is on your computer.
