Just wanted to rant about Steam, because they'll only remove my post if I do it there!

I discovered today that I can only post in forums relating to a specific game, if I purchased said game from Steam. So I asked the question in a general hints and tips section and now it's been deleted.

There's something I've not liked about Steam from the very off - their extortionate prices, insistence that accounts are created before a game can be played, even when that game was bought on disc and completely independent to Steam, and now this!

The place appears to run by a bunch of little Hitlers.

Too late to edit my OP, but I was supposed to ask if I'll still be able to play Tropico 4 if I ask for my Steam account to be deleted?

The game was bought on disc, but I had to create an account with Steam to access it. If Steam are able to stop me from playing a game I bought independently to them, it's an absolute outrage!

You're just going to have to get over it....if you want to play games on a PC. Origin and Steam are taking these actions to prevent illegal copies from torrent sites (being downloaded w/keys) to use as a legitimate copy (verifying).

As far as pricing goes: I don't see anything what your talking about. Example: go to your favorite retail store or game store and buy a newly released game. The price is $59.99.....it's the same price on steam. Furthermore, it's the same price for consoles as well.....do your research and get your facts straight.

As for forum content; each forum has their own set of rules and everyone is different. So what is acceptable on one forum may not be acceptable on another. And it comes down to who's doing the deleting of said content.....as it's all up for interpretation. Some well let said content slide and others will see it differently and remove it. It's just Human Nature.

I have done my research, and I'm not talking about new releases. I'm referring to instances like £15 for a game that can be had for £2 on amazon. Their prices for years-old games are ridiculous, and there's no denying that.

Also, just to repeat. Can anyone tell me if I actually need an active Steam account to play Tropico 4 (which I had to register through Steam). I understand none of my stats will be uploaded, and that I won't be able to play it on a 'connected' level, but I'm not interested in any of that anyway.

Pricing on Steam is as anything else, watch for the deals. Many games can be had for pennies during their sales. I have purchased many games for $5 or less.

I watch for sales, and some of them are outrageously cheap for many games. Usually I pay no more than $5.00 to $9.00 for tier 2 titles only a few years old or $19.99 for tier 1 titles only a year or two old. Every now and then even games like Far Cry 4, or Dying Light go way down but the sale will only last a few days so you have to be vigilant searching the site or simply looking at a "franchise sale" where you can get the entire franchise at a huge discount, but even better you can simple click on that "sale" then go down to the game you're looking for itself which may be as low as $5.99-$9.99-$14.99
