    Good morning,
My computer is taking a long time to start.
I was wondering if you could tell me which programs I can omit
when I start my PC. I have my Task Manager window open right now.
Just need help on which ones I close for quicker start up.
    Thanks

Good morning and welcome Bette Jo. Tell us more about your computer and what version of Windows you're running please. Also, how long is it taking for your computer to get to the Desktop screen? That's the screen that typically has icons on it. (It could be blank depending on how it's set up.)

Then we will move this thread to the appropriate forum. With the added information, we can better answer your question.

    Hello Tony,
I have Windows 10 and it takes approximately 5 minutes to get desktop displayed.
It is a HP Intel Pentium laptop.

5 minutes is definitely too long.

You can disable everything in your Startup tab except your virus/malware protection.

Does the machine run properly once it's started? Or is it also sluggish after it gets going?
Is it sluggish just on the Internet or is it sluggish opening local folders and documents?

btw: What are you using for virus/malware protection?

Note: This thread has been moved to the Windows 10 forum.

    Tony,
It does run sluggish after it gets going. Both are slower, internet and folders.
My virus protection is Avast Internet Security, Avast Driver Updater, Avast Cleanup.

That usually points to either a hard drive issue or malware.

A machine can slow down when the hard drive gets full. So check to see how full your hard drive is. You can find the hard drive by using File Explorer (Windows key + E). Once it opens, click on This PC and look for Local Disk (C). Hard drives do at times simply slow down. How old is that hard drive?

You can get help checking for malware in our Malware Removal Forum at https://computerhelpforums.com/forums/malware-removal-help.59/

I think it took me forever to find Hard Drive. It looks like it was last modified 5-2-2017. I haven't run the malware removal. I feel I should defrag. I am running a scan to see what needs to be optimized. I do have it scheduled to run a scan weekly. Should I get rid of all start up programs except virus program?

Firstly, how full was that hard drive? You can see from my computer that my hard drive is about 1/3 full.

In addition to what Tony D has suggested, when did you notice that it took so long to start up?
