Hi! Going to attempt to post some things I have learned about W10. Keep in mind that I'm still learning about this OS. I think it will some day be the best OS MS ever created. I know that is up for discussion.
To me it's a combination of W7 W8.1 and W10. I like it. I know there are members here that don't. You won't know if you like it or not until you try it. I'm going to try and post things that I have learned and hope it helps our members and visitors.
First of all and the most important thing is to create a back up of your present OS with a 3rd party program like Macrium Reflect. I use the free version and it works great. This way you just use the image to roll back to your old OS. If your rich, you can get another HD and clone it and put the clone in a drawer.
I would use the Media Creation Tool to upgrade. I believe it works better with less bugs. I had just a couple of minor bugs. I will put some links at the bottom of my post. I have already created a thread with some good links about W10. I just wanted to add a little with this post!
You can use the Media Creation Tool for recovery also, so I suggest creating a flash with MCT. A short way to describe Media Creation Tool!
You need to create a System Repair disc. You will need this if your PC fails to boot into Windows. This is a live CD that will boot into the repair mode, where you'll have several options to repair your OS.
You should also create a Recovery Drive. It creates media to reinstall the operating system. I highly recommend creating both of these. W10 will guild you how to create these tools.
Windows 10 has a lot of ways to recover and you need to be prepared for the worst.
I can't empathize how important it is to create a image of your OS. It is your best and easiest way to recover from a disaster. I may have to edit and add more, but for now this is all I can think of. Here's a couple of links. If anyone has better links, please post them in your reply. This is a long read, but may be worth your time. I'm trying hard to make a good hand here on CHF so help me out if you know W10 and can add to this thread or correct my any mistakes.

Here's a tip! Right click on the windows logo bottom left corner.(Some times called Orb) You will find a lot of places you might want to go.
If some thing you want isn't in the pop up, ask Cortana to find it. I'm falling in love with Cortana LOL
Come on you windows users help me out on this thread!
PS I use the snipping tool for all my screen shots. What a great tool!http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/open-snipping-tool-and-take-a-screenshot

I hate windows 10.....simply because MS has taken away the ability for a user to control the MS updates. So I will stay with windows 8.1 Pro and sift through the MS update and install "what" I want vs what MS thinks I need, like in windows 10.

Hi bassfisher! There are a lot of Windows users that feel like you. Rich is one and I enjoy teasing him about it. I'm not trying to get anyone to upgrade. I'm hoping I can help CHF members and guest with W10. I'm still learning and hope to add more to this thread.
I've heard there is a way to control W10 up dates. I'll do some searching and add it to this thread if I find the link!

Let me know what you find.....if that changes I jump back onboard with 10. As I was a windows 10 insiders since MS first released it for testing....almost a year and half of testing with it. Even during the testing that was a big issue for most of us.

Not really control updates Gary but I had heard in the Home version you have no control over them whereas the other versions you do. However I noticed if you search for Windows Updates you can bring the page up manually and install what you choose, there is just no way to program them.

I think you are right about the Home version. I don't understand why MS is doing the up dates this way! We don't have to worry Rich as long as we have a image. I just let MS do it's thing and hope they don't brick my PC with a stupid up date. They have done that before. Fortunately it has never happened to me. Maybe MS will wake up and change it back like it used to be! There are a lot of people complaining about this!

Yep all true enjoyed that article. What they don't know and cannot judge is how many of those converts stayed there.
I personally I know of only 2 users out of 100 who remained with upgrade and today I just learned about the second.
You were one of them and a Friend of mine in AZ I just found out about today is the other.

I can't get on board because I don't feel I should have to do registry hacks to make it look half way decent. Plus I don't like giving MS control over what gets installed but this is an old topic now and has been discussed to great length.

I agree Gimbo. On one box I run 7, and the main gaming box I run 10. I can deal with 10 fine, but I am not your average tech either, and like others have stated I don't like having to take the time to make it private, or fix the updates, but it takes me about 5 minutes to do it. However, I don't like the premise of Windows 10 taking away a lot of control against the average user, and I happen to serve some of those users just like you guys do

here is how I would rate Windows Iterations (on a scale of 1-10)

    W95-7
    W98Se - 7
    Widows ME - 5
    Windows Xp - 8
    Windows Vista - 6
    Windows 7 - 9
    Windows 8.1 - 7 (was a 5 for a while)
Windows 10 6 (but is a potential 8 or 9 if they fix privacy, updates, and the IU)

Cornana " I don't know much about Japanese Zen and 7-11 is around the corner."

Hi If you don't want to learn how to use a 3rd party software to create a system image, then at least use the windows feature to create a image. It's better then nothing. Here's a tutorial.
    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5495-system-image-create-windows-10-a.html
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/restore-computer-from-system-image-backup#1TC=windows-7
Click on advanced start up. You should be able to find your image and restore it! Your PC will restart and you will see the option to restore your image. I can't find a good tutorial, but it works.
I've been there and done it! Hope this helps!

Hi Here is a good link that explains some of the recovery options for W10. If your going to run W10, then you should make yourself familiar with how to recover your OS! Remember that a back up image created with a 3rd party program like Macrium is the best insurance you can have when you encounter a disaster that you can't recover from!
    https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/4279/windows-10-feature-focus-backup-and-recovery
PS Please create a System Repair disc and a Recovery Drive if you are going to run W10. Even though you have a image with macrium, it never hurts to have other ways to recover. I like to think I'm like a cat with 9 lives and I can recover from any software problem and even a minor hardware problem.
PS These posts are some thing to read when the action is slow on CHF. I think I know my W10 pretty good, but I'm still learning!
Windows includes a number of technologies for replicating and backing up documents and other files on your PC, wiping out the PC to start over from scratch, and imaging the drive so that you can recover in the event of a hard drive failure. Which of these technologies you choose will depend on your needs.
