Wow, few places seem safe on the internet anymore do they, Snoopy.

Even with updated firewall and anti-virus and never opening emails unless very, very sure, the creations of the sick/greedy minds are still a threat - sigh.

There is a saying that goes like this "Your computer is only safe when disconnected from the Internet". Even then I have read of incidents where malware was found on new DVD's.

Now that is downright scary, Snoopy!

I wouldn't have thought for a moment that even new DVDs were suspect - drat!

Little 'thumb drives' seem to make the rounds in our house and I've long ago discovered it's always best to have the computer set to not auto-open when they're inserted ... now, I run a scan on them each time I get them back before using. But it really does seem as you say, the only save way to use a computer is to not connect to the net (or lend computer stuff to others - grin).

Mara ... I refrained from purchasing Sony DVD blanks because of an alert they contained root kits. The reason for the root kits was to report back to Sony if copywritten material or illegal music downloading was being done. I do not know if that alert holds true now but at that time which was over a year ago, there was some discussion about it in the security community.

Well, shame on them! Much like secretly spying and that's despicable!

I've got a stack of Sony disks sitting there that must be about 15 months old now and, while I don't think I've ever done anything illegal on mine, surely won't be buying their brand anymore, Snoopy.

Even if their products are 'clean' now, it's the principal - thanks for the heads up!
