I am using Firefox. If I am at a website and make a desktop shortcut to site the icon is a Firefox browser icon. I have other web shortcuts that have unique icons. I did not create the icons. If I have a website with an icon and want to keep the icon is there a way to change the Firefox icon to the unique one of the website? I have windows XP and windows 7 laptops. For some reason some websites automatically show the unique icons but if they dont how can I create one?

You can change the shortcut icon from Firefox to something different.
Right click the shortcut and select Properties.

    Select Change Icon.

Scroll through the icons and select the icon shortcut that you want.
    Click OK.

I use the Firefox Icons for shortcuts to sites I frequent.

IIRC there is a space to label or name each icon for different sites.

I have a shortcut to this forum with its icon but forgot how I made it. Copied another site shortcut with icon to flash drive and copied it to w10 laptop and icon stayed. But if I make a shortcut of this page to desktop it has the Firefox icon. Odd.
If I click properties and choose icon, the desired icon must already be in a folder somewhere as an icon file I believe.
I think I was happier not having time for such things as this.

I think if I right click and choose Copy it makes the unique icon. If I say Create shortcut it makes a generic icon.

There are 2 Firefox Add-ons that I use:
    • Edit Bookmark Plus
    • FavIconReloader
    Give them a try.
