Security Centre states that my antivirus is out of date but it is not

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by PA Bear [MS MVP], Sep 27, 2009.

  1. Your issues have nothing to do with Windows Update. As such, I am
crossposting this reply to Security HomeUsers newsgroup.

Does this happen at boot and does the red shield warning eventually
disappear? Have you contacted CA Support about this?

Open IE to | select CUSTOM and scan |
Install any critical security updates offered. If a Root Certificates
update is listed in the Optional Updates category, install it to take full
    advantage of IE's enhanced security.

Alternately, you can download & install the Sept-09 Root Certificates update
    manually:

  2. Re: Security Centre states that my antivirus is out of date but itis not

You posted this message on October 27, 2009. Any virus definitions on your
system now (September 27, 2009) will be out of date in a month, so the warning
    is correct :)

    Reset you computer's clock.

    No.

Your computer is probably reacting to your time displacement. I would
suggest corfrecting your computers time/date - as you are a full month ahead
of the rest of the planet.

( It's not October 27, but September 27. At least you stayed in the same
    year - that's nice. ;-) )

Thanks for all your help. The issue is no longer evident now that the time
is correct. I had moved it on a month to activate something and forgot to
    put it back again.

    Thanks again

I am not surprised at all. Your system date is not correct so you will
get the error you are reporting here.

Change your system date and you will be alright.

Perhaps because your computer clock and/or timezone is showing a date
    fifteen days into the future?

Not sure if this is a Windows Update issue or not, but thought I would try
    here first.

Using WinXP Home SP3, fully patched.

This has only just started today with the Security Centre red shield
appearing stating that my CA Antivirus is out of date. When I do an update
on the Antivirus scanner, it claims that I am up to date. This is using the
latest version of CA Antivirus (the single application, not the suite) and
the product still has 5 months to go before renewal.

Another problem has also occurred with security certificates using IE 8.
Secure web sites that I have used time and time again are now being
signalled as having invalid or out of date security certificates. This
started to ocurr at the same time as the antivirus problem.

I have scanned my PC for viruses and run 4 different mallware applications.
    No problems were detected.
I have checked the processes running with Process Explorer and cannot see
anything that was not there before or anything that looks suspicious.

Has there been an MS update that has started to cause these problems? Has
anyone else experienced the same issues?

If not, does anyone know how to sort this out?

    TIA

    Martin
