    Hello,

So i just recently installed windows 8 on 2 laptops i have one that is a couple years old and one that is less then a year. Now they both had virus on them because my mother who isn't that computer savvy shall i say had them both so i bough windows 8 a 3 pack for my main PC and these 2 laptops but as i was installed it i noticed that for both of them the screen resolution was 1024 x 600 and it is the recommended screen size and that is no higher then it goes. Most Windows 8 apps need a 1024 x 768 resolution to run now i was wondering if their is any way to stretch it to fix those pixels so i can simply run the email application. If any of you have any ideas on how to fix it i would be great full since i am planning to use one of these laptops for a school computer and the other one my mother would like it back so ASAP would be best.

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Sounds like you have not installed device drivers for the systems. Hopefully Windows 8 drivers will be available for both system. Since the older system is only a couple of years old there is a fair chance of finding drivers.

We need the make and model of both systems.

Well they both have integrated Intel chips because they are notebook's and they are as followed:

Older computer: Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family (Toshiba) and the laptop model is a Toshiba NB200 Series.

Newer One: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 and the model of the computer is a Aspire one D255E

I started to search for "Mobile Intel 945 Express" and "Toshiba NB200 Series" but didn't. It is good that you know the system chipsets but that is not what we would actually be after to find drivers. Don't get me wrong as it DOES help once we start looking at drivers but we need the actual make and model. Obviously it would seem that both are Toshiba systems but we need to know EXACTLY which systems. As an example; more than one model of Toshiba could use an Intel 945 chipset but that does not mean that drivers from one would work on another. For instance, say that one was a Toshiba Satellite... That would not be enough. A Satellite U940 could use totally different drivers than a Satellite U840t. We need the EXACT model.

I cannot in good conscience act on a PDF file. The PDF file has specs for which system? This does not work at all. This is the third time I've asked and I will not ask again. We NEED the model numbers of each system. If it is an issue where you do not know the model numbers just say so. We can probably help you find them. As a hint look on the bottom of the systems for a stuck-on label. One will probably state the model.

I really do not mean to sound harsh but I am not sitting there next to you. When a question is asked here it is because an answer is needed. We do not sit here thinking up questions to make things more difficult for people with issues. We ask questions because we NEED the answers to be able to help.

I could be wrong but I suspect that your issue is a lack of proper device drivers. Without the EXACT model number of each system it is totally impossible for me or anyone else to point you toward the proper drivers.

Just as has been asked in post #7 by Jaylach we really do need the make and model of your computers. Without this information it is very difficult for CHF to help resolve your problem.
And also, just has been suggested already, look for the model numbers/details on the underside of the machines.

Hi and Welcome to Computer Help Forums and thank you for trusting us with your issue.

after reading through your thread, I have to agree with Jaylach and PseFrank, in the most likely cause being the wrong, or no driver installed, and I also agree that we need the Model numbers of the machines.

as you can see the Toshiba Support Site asks for either the Model Number or the Serial Number, The Model Number is a generic to that Model of computer and in no way can be used to access information that could be used to compromise your security, the Serial number is specific to your machine and can be used to access specific information held by Toshiba about your computers, and I would agree with you withholding this information on a public forum.

However I agree with Jaylach and PseFrank that to assist further we do need the model numbers of your computers so as to Identify the correct drivers.

I hope this helps you feel confident that you have nothing to fear in supplying the required information, if their are other reasons you don't feel secure in revealing this information please feel free to Private Message either Myself , Jaylack, PseFrank, or even all three of us with your concerns.

Having zero luck getting the driver support area of Toshiba to recognize either number. On a general search all I'm seeing are XP drivers. It is possible that there are no Windows 8 drivers for this system.

Hopefully others will have better luck searching...

Let's see if it can find an update on it's own. I'll assume you have an Internet connection. We're going to go to the Device Manager and let Windows search for an updated driver. You never know. This might work.

    1) Place your cursor in the lower left corner.
    2) Right click your mouse.
    3) Move your cursor up to 'Device Manager' and left click.
    4) You should see a listing of devices in your computer. Do any of them have yellow or red marks associated with them? Let us know.
    5) Click the arrow to the left of Display adapters.
    6) You display adapter should show up. What model is shown?
    7) Right click on the display adapter.
    8) A context menu should open. Click on Update Driver Software ...
    9) Click on 'Search automatically for updated driver software'.
If it asks permission to search the Internet, allow it.

The serial number on the sticker is: 69209678K and the part number is: PLL25C-00600C. Am in missing anything?

Shoot, my bad! I really didn't realize the screen was this small. There may still be a work around. According to a CNet review you can set a virtual screen size higher than the physical screen. Can I tell you exactly how to do this? No I can't but it is probably under advanced display settings if the install of Win 8 and drivers still carries the feature.

Here is a quote from the CNet review:

"The 10.1-inch glossy screen features a resolution of 1024x600, and is bright and pleasant to use. If you find that some programs have elements that appear off the screen, the graphics drivers support a virtual resolution up to 1600x1200, allowing you to pan the larger-than screen resolution around to find what you need.".

You MIGHT be able to accomplish this by just increasing the resolution setting. To be able to do this you MIGHT have to select to 'show all modes' for the video. Without doing this usually only those that will actually fit the monitor will be displayed.
