Discussion in 'Windows Vista' started by Sergiu DUDNIC, Jan 25, 2008.

  1. Hello,

How can I resize the boot or system partition?

After reinstalling Vista, the old system Disk C became bootable... now, I
    can't resize it... [IMG]

    From the Disk Management Help:

"For logical drives, boot, or system volumes, you can extend the volume only
into contiguous space and only if the disk can be upgraded to a dynamic
disk. For other volumes, you can extend the volume into noncontiguous space,
but you will be prompted to convert the disk to dynamic."

Perhaps it might help if you described the drive size and free space.

You need to use a third party partitioning utility such as BootItNG
    from

    Good luck

If there is unallocated space around the partition, you can use diskpart
command to extend partition without pay. However diskpart command cannot
    resize boot partition.

For running Windows xp/vista, you can 'resize boot partition with
    Acronis Disk Director Suite'
    (). Or you can also
try some freeware like Paragon Partition Manager Express, Ranish
    Partition Manager etc.

For running Windows server, this article tells us some 'free methods to
    resize server partition '
    (
    )

Of course, the system partition can be resized to a larger space for
applications upgrade and more free space may also optimize the
    performance of the computer.

To resize the system partition safely and easily, here is a detailed
    guide:
