After my installation of an OEM refurb motherboard, I got 1 long beep and 2 short beeps.
No monitor display and no mouse light on, either.

After I reset the CMOS, the machine fired away.
Evidently, my replacement mobo needed that.
Just a heads up, in case yours needs that, too.

Moving the jumper one pin to the right, with a working CMOS battery IN, and the 110v unplugged, then waiting a few minutes before putting the jumper back, is the method I used for reset.

The original motherboard died for no apparent reason. (Case side cover was off a lot, so perhaps heat contributed to an early demise.)

It stopped at the splash screen and failed to POST, but after a re-start, booted normally.
A few days later, it went to the splash screen and never any farther. End of the line after 5.5 years.

Ordered an exact dupe, OEM refurbished on eBay and installed it myself.
Watched a youtube of a similar mobo being installed, to get educated.
Ran it by my regular forum guys since some are experienced at builds.

Just wanted to show up here and share about the CMOS resetting deal.
Since none of the sites I read mentioned doing that, I was lucky to have added to my brainstorming list.

Well done Johnny for installing your new motherboard, and thankyou for posting the fix that worked for you.

Note for other readers : One long and two short beeps is often a video card/graphics problem.

ASUS - are there any others worth buying?

Just to add to this popping the CMOS battery (watch type battery) out of the motherboard (while the PC is off) also has the same effect.
