[Solved] Remove Annoying Windows 10 Icon Upgrade Icon from Taskbar

I just realized there are lengthy articles about how to remove the Windows 10 icon from the taskbar to end the annoying nag messages to upgrade to Windows 10. Simply open Control Panel, Programs and Features, Windows Updates, then go to "Installed Updates" and Uninstall KB3035583 and then choose to reboot later when prompted. It is as simple as that.

 

Rich I think that is only a temporary solution that only removes the KB until it installs again. You want to change your windows update setting to install important updates only, and most important you want to uncheck "Give me recommended updates the same way I install important updates". One more step, you want to change the initial windows update settings to "check for updates but let me choose weather to download and install them". That should do it.

 

Yeah me too. A lot of users don't though.

Dude right after I got my power supply situation fixed and the system running ok now I have damn WINDOWS freaking 10 on my system and I don't know how I got this. I do have a system install disk from the OEM I will try to either undo windows 10 or re-install my original operating system.

Do as Dougie suggests its really easy and can be done for 30 days only.

To rid yourself of the popup and icon for Windows 10, all you have to do is go into Control panel, Programs & Features and scroll to the end to the Windows Updates folder. Check that the upper right side of the Control Panel window is highlighting "large icons" after the words "view by" first.

On the bottom left side of the window that opens click on “Installed Updates” and scroll down through the updates (it takes quite a while until that windows gets full BTW) and double click # KB3035583 and uninstall that update then restart system…..

 

Further to Rich's good advice. Although you uninstall KB3035583 it will come down again as an update. Keep your eye out for it and Highlight KB3035583 and choose "Hide update"
