IE is loading faster. Haven't tried Firefox yet. I have only recently installed FF, nothing I've added to it, do I need to refresh or reset it?
It would be nearly impossible to explain those reports, you say. I printed them all out in order to read them more slowly. It appears I didn't have malware or adware. It appears there were a lot of "repairs" to Windows files. Correct me if I'm wrong. I prefer being a student, thus I want to learn. An overall view of what the scans found, not a blow by blow account, is what I'd like to hear from you. Thanks so much for your help. I've saved all the links for resets, etc. Thanks for those too. And your patience at having to explain the steps to follow your instructions.
My ultimate goal is to re-install Win10. We had to remove it after 3 weeks, lost a lot of functionality.

Hello again, CarolsSis. You're very welcome. Yes, I would try refreshing FF, as you said it was just as slow or slower than IE earlier.

As far as the file repairs, I assume you followed anothers instructions, which I deleted thinking you hadn't seen them yet.

Your logs didn't show anything malicious. You did have a potentially unwanted application, DriverDetective.

FRST and AdwCleaner pretty much took care of that.

    ------------------------------------------------------

Before you reinstall Win10, we need to make sure no malware remnants remain by running an online ESET scan.

    ------------------------------------------------------

Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during the scan.

Go here and click 'Run ESET Online Scanner'.
    • If you are not using Internet Explorer, double-click esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to install it, then click 'Run'.
    • Turn off the real-time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan. Here's how
    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
    • If using Internet Explorer, allow the ActiveX control to install when asked.
    • Once the components have downloaded, tick the option Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications
    • Click on Advanced Settings
    • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked.
    • Ensure these options are ticked:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
      • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
    • Next to 'Current scan targets: Operating memory, Local drives', click the Change... button.
    • Tick all the boxes that correspond to your external/inserted drives.
    • Click Start
    • Wait for the scan to finish.
    • When the scan is done, if it shows a screen that says "Threats found!", click "List of found threats", and then click "Export to text file..."
    • Save that text file to your desktop, and then copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

I have run MBAM, AdwCleaner, Fixit, as per your instructions.
Have attempted ESET online scan, 3 times. After checking accept box, start button, small screen turns light blue, nothing else happens. I took the time to read the page, it has a progress bar, etc. None of that came onscreen. I waited several minutes each try.

I tried once again, success. I saved eset in favorites. Closed forum and Ie. Opened eset from fav. list, had to unblock content, start, and it ran. No threats found, so no list to post here. IE is still doing the "can't display this page". Some of my passwords and log ins didn't transfer to FF, apparently, so an using IE.
Where do we go from here?

You said you are using IE, but get 'can't display this page'. So you can display this page, what other pages can you get to, and what pages can't you get to?

The page itself doesn't seem to matter. I tried 5 times to open this forum before I gave up, but that's unusual. I'll click my link, the page name shows in addy bar, then the screen comes up with 'can't display this page". I can chose refresh or box on page with header that reads: Windows Network Diagnostics" it goes thru a series of steps, then page comes up. I have trouble on a news page waiting long time to change to another story. Theres no rhyme or reason, no special page, they're all at risk for not getting loaded. Up to 20 seconds or more, for one page.
My husband told me his email address disappeared 3 days ago. We have our email addresses thru our ISP and use Live Mail. He lost his favorites list yesterday. I have my favorites list in FF, some of the links tell me my email or password is wrong.
This machine has had the crazies from the first day we brought it home. I've fought for 2 years to try to fix what is wrong or to at least find out what is wrong. I paid $90 to repair shop last Feb. they ran AdwCleaner and FSSKiller. Nothing was fixed to say the least. Very frustrating.

HP Pavilion 400-034 Slimline desktop pc. Win8 installed (and updated to 8.1 ). IE10. Joshua H61-uATX motherboard, Pentium Processor G 2020. this info is per mfgr. product specs page. purchased, Mar 2014. Installed Win10 8 Aug.2015, uninstalled Win10 4 Sept. 2015. Lost use of Cortana first, then icon, then entire box on left taskbar. Calendar quit. Mail app quit. Forced to use online access to ISP account for mail. then my husband had Cortana quit on him, icon, all gone at once. His mail was unusable on machine, go to ISP site ( several days after mine quit). We uninstalled Win10. Reinstalled Mail app, calendar app. Reinstalled Solitaire collection, I cannot use mine, my hubby can. Our optical mouse software was removed also, cannot find it at mfgr. site, scroll wheel not functioning.
IE, when opening IE it may display on screen immediately, but usually takes 20 or more seconds. have tried other home pages, no change. If the page doesn't open, it shows "can't display page", pop up box header "Microsoft Network Diagnostics". It shows progress bar while it checks several configurations. this is after clicking on "fix connection" box. Fix connection reads that Windows couldn't identify the problem, close page, blue circle runs, opens of doesn't open page. At times, while on a news page, an ad isn't there, crammed into the space is partial of "can't display this page" message. Sometimes there is long wait to change to another page in news page. Again, can't display page can come up. Have recently started using refresh from address bar, it's faster. Out of 10 tries to access IE, 4 might be successful at first try, others show can't display.
I had not added accelerators, add ons or other apps to IE. We had Norton AV uninstalled it, installed Avast, recently uninstalled it, installed Avira.
We installed software for Brother 4 in 1 printer, came with Nuance paper port and pdf viewer. This week I installed FF, and Flash player after receiving message that I had none. I didn't use link on page, address bar to Adobe page. We make sure the updates get installed. I click on 7 or so at a time, restart, then 7 or 8 more.
Thanks for your time, and knowledge that you share with me. I appreciate it.
I suspect that the machine has a bad install of Win8 to start with or vendor sent faulty parts? This machine shows space used in recovery partition. Mfgr. site says "Recovery Manager : Program Reinstallation, with list below and yes or no in chart. OS has a no in box, as do DTS Sound.
I'm frankly stumped as to what to do, now that the machine still has same issues and no malware, etc.
Again, I thank you for your time. I hope this info may be helpful

Hello again, CarolSis. You're welcome. Yes, it appears your problems are beyond malware. Sorry there isn't something more I can do. You didn't make a system recovery disc or repair disc when you set up the machine?

Yes, I did make recovery discs. At this point, I would not use them. After experiencing the problems, I started looking around. At some point, I opened "this pc" on desktop. It shows D: drive, 10.5 GB usage of space. Well, surprise, according to mfgr. site, recovery was not included, unless I misunderstood what I read. I opened D: drive, and what I saw was so unusual, I knew that recovery discs I had made were useless. I was so shocked at what I saw, I wrote it all down. After removal of Win 10 I checked it again, it looked completely different, it looks more like it should. But, I don't think I'd want to trust it, unless I could get it verified that it's really a recovery image. Is that possible to do? I have discs, can copy D: drive, but how would I get it verified that it's a true representation of Win8.1? This is, after all, what is on D drive after all the wreckage of removal of Win10.
I had XP on a computer for 13 years. Knew nothing when I bought it. I learned on my own, online articles, pc magazines, asking people I knew, discussions on chats. The experience of Win 8 and 10 has cooled my learning curve with it, considerably. I can post the contents of D drive before Win 10 and after, if you'd like to see.
Any ideas on how I could get previous D drive discs verified? Or current ones? Thanks again, so appreciated.

It does appear you have a recovery image for, I'm assuming, Win8.1.

It is weird though, as you said, that the website for your model says no recovery was included. I looked up the link too.

As I am only trained in malware removal, it would probably be best if you asked for help in the Windows 8 Forum

Let them know you were here first, and were cleared from malware.

Thanks so much for your diligence in looking thru the reports for the D drive info. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all you've done for me. You've been patient, willing to share knowledge and thorough with your scans. It gives us a measure of security to know malware or adware wasn't our problem here. Thanks for all your help, and advice.

No apology needed. You did all you could and went beyond in my opinion with your answers to my questions. I'll post on win 8 forum. Thanks again, so much.
will the programs uninstall with Windows uninstaller, or do they have their own?
