Basically my problem is this: I've recently purchased 2x1GB sticks of RAM to beef up my lagging machine (I previously had around 700MB). Upon swapping the old stuff for the new stuff, Windows refused to boot. I got as far as the boot select screen and no matter what I chose, safe mode, last known config, it simply restarted and ended up back on the boot screen.
My motherboard is an ASUS K8V-MX, and the RAM I'm using is Kingston DDR RAM -KVR400X64C3A/1G (recommended in the motherboard manual).
The thing is, both of the sticks work on their own respectively, or alongside my old RAM, but when they're put in side by side... nothing!

I've been going back and forth, trying to figure this out for hours and to no avail.

Hopefully some of you clever folk can help me out :)

What exactly do you mean by side by side. Most Motherboards that have more that 2 slots for memory are coded so that the 1st and Third slots are to be used together and then the 2nd and 4th etc. Often they are color coded.

RAM is a very confusing subject for me. I don't understand how or why it works, or as in this case doesn't work. But if it helps anyone else, the motherboard in question has two slots and Crucial recommends DDR PC3200 or DDR PC2700 up to a maximum of 1GB per slot.

    Hope this helps out... :)

ASUS - are there any others worth buying?
    CPU:
Q6600 at 4.0Ghz per core (Watercooled)

    Samsung - all the way

The best thing to do would be to pop the CMOS out (the round watch type battery) do this with the PC off and leave the battery out for 30 seconds.
This will clear any settings in the BIOS so you will have to go back in if you need to change anything such as overclocking options etc.
Some MOBOs especially older ones require this be done when any components are changed

    Hope this helps

No luck here I'm afraid. It just reverts back to the same problem :(

As they work independently but not together I would say either one of the DIMMS is having problems (where you insert the RAM)
or the MOBO cannot set the voltage automatically
