I'd give your copy of Office a try on your W10 machine. I understand MS has been pretty good about keeping Office compatible with new versions of Windows. If you run into a problem, we can look at running it in Compatibility mode.

Others to consider, Google has Google Slides as part of its cloud-based apps. Apple has Keynote as part of its cloud-based apps. Then there's OpenOffice. All these are free.

According to Microsoft it is not compatible with Windows 10 but should work in compatibility mode.

From what I've read, for the most part, MS Office 2003 should work. Some features may not work. Give it a try.

Sorry I have not answered before this (thank you all for the suggestions) (I obviously didnt set things up correctly to send me an email when there was a reply).

I do have a copy of Microsoft Office 2010 as well as 2003 (2003 is on a disc, may be too hard to transfer to win 10) but M/S O 2010 I paid for and received an email from M/S with the download in it. I have had several goes at trying to load M/s2010 on my new notebook, but it says it will take 9 hrs, and after a few attempts its only got as far as 4%- very frustrating. Other programs I've loaded have whizzed by. I tried to email back to M/S but its a no reply address, and as I am in Australia, I dont feel like ringing the US. Any suggestions why it would be taking so long to download? 2010 of course doesnt have Publisher.

Yes, I would prefer to stay with M/S as I prefer M/S Outlook as an email program, but can't even get that on Win10

I thought I answered this, sorry. I have actually rung Microsoft in Sydney. I said that I could not understand them, nor hear them properly and asked them to email me after I gave them my email address). I knew they wouldn't and they didn't.

I live in Sydney and contacted Microsoft here on three occasions and found them very helpful and friendly.
If you ring again you may strike someone very friendly.
What they don't like if you get agro and rub them the wrong way.

I should have stated I have Microsoft Office 2010 home and business, which does not have publisher.

I also used to live in Sydney and driven past their office many times! Am in Victoria now.

The problem was, I was given too many options by the recorded voice which I could not hear properly and this kept going on for ages, I kept clicking 1 -1 -1 etc. Eventually I got onto someone but could not hear them or understand them, he put me on to tech support - same thing. But have now found a Microsoft Forum so will let you know how I go.

Why do you say Outlook 2010 won't work in Windows 10? I have been using if for almost a year now though I recently moved on to 2013 version.

I have to agree some times dealing with forums and chats are more beneficial that dealing with some over the phone.

Does it have to be downloaded to the system you wish to install on or can it be downloaded to another system and transferred via thumb drive and to the Laptop and then installed?

Do you mean from dvd or website or do you mean downloading with it. Sorry I am a bit obtuse here I guess.

    What is you internet speed?

You stated on another forum that you are not wireless? You made sure to disable the wireless on the laptop?

Well I didnt think I had wireless on the laptop - how can I tell?

Same with internet speed, I forget what you have to type in.

I finally got the program loaded after many hours, tried to set up Outlook (think I made a mistake, as Im getting a message about Micrsoft exchange, so don't know what I've done. After that, I did manage to activate the program through Microsoft, but it doesnt matter how many times I go into Outlook (even when I uninstalled and reinstalled it) I still get the same message about Microsoft exchange, it says outlook is not on line (tho it is) I think Word is working ok tho.
