I have had this Unit for quite a long time, so returning it is not really an option! I used it about a week ago placing a PC hard drive into the cradle, and it actually smoked! Does that sound like something it might do if used incorrectly? I have absolutely no experience with these units! Thanks John

Not sure what you mean by used incorrectly. If your docking station is like mine as seen here, you really cannot use it incorrect. I am assuming you were careful when sliding it in and you were using the correct power supply. And frankly sliding it in is nothing tricky either.

So if you were careful as described, I have to assume either the drive was bad, or your docking station is faulty.
