I have a HP photosmart c7280 all in one printer . I cannot scan with windows 8 OS, only print. I downloaded the file  to be able to scan, but it gets to the place where I confirm to "run". and when I click run, it asks about making changes to computer and I agree and then it goes to desktop on windows 8 and never does anything. I waited about three hours and nothing happens.. I went thru the same thing with my laptop with windows 7 and downloaded the file for windows 7 and everything downloaded and installed and I can scan using my laptop. The computer and laptop and printer is running wireless of same router.
    Any help?
    Thanks

When you click on the file on the website, are you then choosing 'Save As' or 'Run'? If you choosing Run, try choosing the Save As option. The file will download to a location we chose. Go there and double click the file to run the application.

Ok, I downloaded to a jumb drive and then ran the program from the jumb drive. It works fine until it gets to "checking system", then it just sits there saying "checking system" .
This has been going now for about two hours and is not moving from that "checking system".
Should i cancel and try again? or just see if it ever moves?
It has three more steps before it would finish installing.
2nd step: prepare system for installation
    3rd step: install software.
    4th step: configure product.
This file came from HP support for Windows 8.

Well, since the printer/scanner works on a Win 7 install let's get very basic with the Win 8 machine.  Are you sure that you are not trying to install Win 7 drivers on the Win 8 system?   Here is the HP download page for your printer.  Make sure to select Win 8 as the operating system and, just as important, make sure of the correct choice between 32bit and 64bit.   If you are not sure if you are running 32bit or 64bit go to your Control Panel (icon view) and then System .  It should display whether your system is 32bit or 64bit.

Please see the reply I made to Dragnet above. I am now in the process of download the file from your post, The message on my desktop is that "download in progress". This has been on about one hour now. How long should it take to download? My desktop is a Gateway, amd a6 5400k dual-processor, 1tb harddrive, 6gb ddr memory.
I check the system and chose 64 bit like my computer says.
I also talked to HP support this morning and they told me the could fix the driver problem to work with my HP printer, but they wanted a up front charge.
    What happened to Product support!!!

after working for four days on this problem, I discovered that cause. I was logged in with Microsoft account. I changed back to my standard account, and PRESTO the program loaded and installed and now I can Scan, Copy, and Print from HP Solutions.
Maybe this will help others that have trouble with HP printers working with the New Windows 8 OS.
    Thanks again
PS. HP support left a bad taste in my mouth. They Suck on customer support.
