Built my computer about a year ago, it is my first build. Today I went to go turn it on, everything was going fine, computer opens up normally, I double click rust, the game I was planning on playing, and my computer freezes. I leave it like that for about 10 min, I try ctrl alt del nothing works. So I force shut it off with power button. After I do this I try to turn it back on, the lights on my gigabyte gtx 1040 turn on, but the monitor does not receive any data. Upon closer inspection, I notice a high pitched sound coming from what seems to be the motherboard, but could also be the processor. I have a M5 A97 R2.0 motherboard

Hello Tiger12348 and welcome to Computer Help Forums.

It could be caused by a few different things.
It depends on what the noise sounds like.
If it sounds like a high pitched whine, it could be coming from your video card.
(It could also be a capacitor on the mobo.)
Have you tried removing the side of your tower when attempting to boot the computer?
This could help narrow down where the sound is emanating from.

I have diagnosed it to be the video card, any ideas of how I would be able to fix this?

    I thought as much.
Have you tried removing and re-seating it?

    How would I "re-seat" it?

Did you build this computer yourself?

Carefully remove and then reinsert it.
If you are unsure of how to do this, instructions are HERE

I did that and it still doesn't work, maybe my hard drive is corrupt?

If you aren't receiving a signal to the monitor, I think that it points to the video card itself or possibly the motherboard.
Are you still hearing a high pitched whine coming from the video card?
There's no onboard video with this motherboard so do you have another video card you could try?
