Hey everyone. I had a couple questions about port forwarding and networking. I know my way around Windows 7 and routers pretty well, and I just wanted to make sure I am going to do this all right.

First, if I have 2 desktops (one running Windows 7 32bit, one running Windows XP 32bit) and 2 laptops (One is an iBook 4 and the other is a windows 7 64bit), do I need to setup static IP numbers for each one of these computers so in case one is booted up before another, their IPs don;t change? Currently, my desktop IP is 192.168.1.104 and my laptop is 102.168.1.101 but I think that is because my laptop booted and connected through the wireless first before my desktop connected to the network.

Second, I am currently using the bit torrent program Vuse. I have cable internet modem with a Lynksys B wireless router. I have successfully set up port forwarding for Vuse on my router for my desktop that is hard wired to my router. Now, here is where I am wondering what I need to do next...

Do I need to setup the static IP address for each computer? I have a Sony Vaio laptop that is usually connected through the wireless connection. I run Vuze on the laptop at times as well. So, if I already have settings for Vuze set up in my router for my desktop, do I need to set it up on my laptop as well with a different static IP?

Lets say if I run 'ipconfig' on my desktop, and the the IP address is 192.168.1.104. I have my port forwarding on my desktop for Vuze set up for that IP within my router settings. Then, if I run IPconfig on my laptop, the number is 192.168.1.101 for my laptop's IP address. Do I need to go into my router settings and setup a second set of port forwarding numbers for my laptop but put 192.168.1.101 for the IP number so the laptop will have proper port forwarding for Vuze? Or will it automatically do the port forwarding because I have it setup on my desktop already.

Third and last, I have an Xbox 360 that I connect through wireless. I have no issues with it staying connected or anything. Should I still setup port forwarding for it?? And if so, I take it I should give it a static IP and type in the 3 ports that need to be forwarded for Xbox live?

Thanks in advance. I hope I didn't confuse anyone...

You do need to set static IP for each computer wired or wireless
Do this from within the router rather than windows though, go to your home page for the router and you can set the static IP addresses from within the WLAN section.

SO if for example your address ranges are 192.168.1.100 through to 192.168.1.349
Set them all within that range, I personally set my servers to the first 2 so 192.168.1.101 and 102 and the rest following on from that. REMEMBER that the IP adress applies to the NIC as opposed to the PC so if you have multiple NICs make sure you add the right one to the router range

I don't want the member or anyone else to get the impression that we are condoning or offering aid for P2P use by anyone. In fact it is against our rules to do so for a number of reasons. (Not the least being that it is unsafe)

We will help you get rid of the issues once the inevitable malware occurs but always reserve the right to discontinue support if it keeps recurring. The fact that you are using vuse is only one component of your post. Under no circumstances will we offer help on how to use or better use such programs.
