What should the correct path to my documents be in XP home. Have documents all over the place and want to fix it.

Problem is, I somehow have created multiple Documents, owners documents, My Documents, My documents (date), that were intended to be temporary but never changed. I am going to try to combine them but wasnt sure what the original path was supposed to be, and I must have changed it. Right now there is C:\Documents & Settings\Administrator, All Users, Default User, Local Service, Network Service, Owner.
The Default,Local, Network folders are transparent; the All Users has a My Documents 0 bytes, Default user has Owner Documents 76 bytes, Owner has a My Documents and an Owner Documents which matches the Owner Documents folder on desktop. Needs a reorganization but I get confused which is where it is supposed to me and which is not. Apparently I must have broken some rules in naming and locating them. Did that one time when the ones that were there had different content.

What is the name of the User that you log in with?
What I would do is get an external drive copy all the folders there then copy them to where I wanted. Main reason is that you have a backup of the files.

You have show all files and folders showing is why you are seeing all of the users on the system. Let see if I can put some of them simply.

"All Users" is the basic configuration for All of the users on they system. What is shared to all users.
"Default" is the default configuration, menus, folders for all the users.
"Administrator" is the mother of all accounts. Like say if you get locked out and need to recover info form another this one can be used to access them.
"Local Service, Network Service" Have to deal with more on how the system deals with how thing run locally and over network.
"Owner" is probably the user you are logging into.

The documents folder should be listed under they user that you are logged in as.

There is only one user, which is me, the Control Panel User Accounts lists me as Owner-Computer Administrator,Guest account is turned off, and I do not log in or have any other username or password that I know of.
Awhile back I noticed the My Documents had different contents and I was getting confused so I made them the same. And I figured I was the owner and only user so made the desktop folder Owners Documents to match the C:\Documents & Settings\Owner\Owners Documents and now the OS doesnt know where it is when I have to select and add a file from somewhere when the dialog box opens up.So I apparently have the My Documents folder in the wrong place or wrongly named. So I was trying to get an idea where it should be. Maybe the desktop should be named My Documents and be a shortcut to the actual folder in All Users, except I didnt want to do this and maybe mess things up more.
The different Documents folders also have different contents.
Another reason for confusion is I have 4 OS PCs: W98se, XP laptop 2005, XP desktop 2004, and W7 laptop, and they are all different.
I think I just want one My Documents folder with my stuff in it and a shortcut on desktop to that folder, even if there are other empty ones that the OS has for its own purpose.

You will have to open each and tell them where to save the documents.

Yep that is Microsoft for ya.

One problem is that I have a folder in C:\Doc&Set\Owner\Desktop named "Desktop 7320 9-16-15_1230pm.
Need to know how many My Documents folders there should be, where they are supposed to be, and how to tell the applications where what it calls My Documents is supposed to be. If I go through My Computer:\... it is OK but if I click 'look in My Documents it cant find folder. Tells me to check path in properties but my path seems correct.

    Click the start menu
    Right Click on My Documents

    untitled.PNG

Restore Default will restore the link to what it is for the Default.
Move will tell it where the location is that you want it moved to. When you then click on My Documents it will then go to that location.
Find Target will take you to the current location that My Documents are linked to.

Now to correct this you will need to access the application and tell it where the Documents are stored. Each application/program to find that information is different. There is even a difference between the version/release of that particular application/program.

I think this worked. The My Documents must have been copied to an external drive F:\ by mistake. or misunderstood intent. Have to try to straighten this out tomorrow. Thanks for that tip.

Big help was knowing how to reset the default. I knew it was somewhere but did not recall how to find it. Now at least this Documents location can be found by the Find Files dialog.
