Pages Load Twice

    Is there some reason my web pages load twice all of a sudden? If I click gmail the page loads. Then closes and reloads. Same with other pages like web search. Use Google Chrome and DuckDuckGo search engine. Mostly just the search and gmail pages do this. I typed in a search then it closed and a new blank page loaded. Just curious. But would like it to stop.

    I Googled this and it seems to be an ongoing trend and getting worse. No explanation have I found or a fix.
    Went to settings by clicking the 3 dots top right corner. Selected was "open a specific page or set of pages". Changed it to "open the new tab page". Only 3 choices were listed. Had to try something.
    Re-tried gmail. Still loaded then closed and reloaded. I am stumped.
    Tried all three choices ....still search and gmail load then re-load.
