Set the screen to full screen by clicking on the box to the left of the X in the upper right corner.

Then hold the SHIFT key while clicking the X in the upper right corner.

Open IE again and it should be full screen.

OK., let's see what's going on here. I assumed you opened IE to get to gmail and that gmail is what opens when you launch IE. If that is correct, what I sent you should have worked. IE remembers the screen size when you start it up if you used the Shift-close to exit it.

So what are the steps you use to get to your gmail account?

OK. So when you click on the desktop shortcut, your presented with your gmail inbox. Correct?

If so, maximize the screen by clicking the box to the left of the X in the upper right corner. If the screen does go to full screen, you can hold the SHIFT key while clicking on the X. The windows should close. Then click on your desktop shortcut. It should open full screen. Let us know if that works.

Open gmail then hold your pointer on the left or right window edge line, then the pointer will change to look like a line with a left and right arrow. Now hold the left mouse button and drag the window larger. Do the same for the top and/or bottom. Now close gmail and it should open to the same size you expanded it to.

You stated that this happen when you open GMail from the desktop.
Is this a link (bookmark) that was created from IE?
(Why not just delete it and recreate it)
Is this one of the GMail Apps that you downloaded from the windows store?
Posting a screen shot may also be helpful so we can see what exactly you are referring to.
