Only Microsoft operating systems

Unless my age has dulled my vision more that I thought, it appears that only Microsoft operating systems are included in the Forum's list. Is there support for the inclusion of Linux and IOS for example? I know many people have moved from XP to Linux systems after the withdrawal of support for XP by Microsoft. I have maintained XP Pro SP3 but run it on a dual boot desktop computer which XP shares with Puppy Linux Precise 5.7.1.

Most Linux systems (if not all) can be run from live discs or USB keys and so can provide access to Microsoft computers that have become unbootable through system file corruption. This provides a means of moving important data files to an external device perhaps before a new installation of the Microsoft operating system.

I'm no expert, I have a little experience to let me get by when problems are simple but I would welcome the opportunity to obtain advice from experts who frequent forums like this. Some of those experts on this forum, I am sure are well qualified to help on Linux and other operating system matters as well as Microsoft systems.

 

We've debated this many times and every time we hit the same problem that we have no experts who feel confident to handle issues with other operating systems, seems that the experts stick to there preferred OS and relative forums but I feel the same as you, It would be nice to have someone with experience of linux or other OS's for the reasons you mention. So we stick to being a microsoft forum

 

Thanks for your replies. I joined this forum as a refugee from the ComputerActive Magazine Forums (a UK bi-monthly publication) which is no longer active but can be viewed until 01 September (http://forums.computeractive.co.uk/). Those forums covered virtually anything members wished to raise and many of the experts were just ordinary members willing to share their experience. It really was a community operation and a shame, therefore, when the publisher of the magazine decided to pull the plug.

I respect the point that the administrators may not feel accomplished enough to deal directly themselves with non Microsoft operating system queries but I believe that the opportunity to post questions about non-Microsoft issues may well attract new members with additional broad-based skills and who can offer advice.

I know there are specialist forums one can join but a more general forum, offering a broad range of sub-forums, surely has a place on the internet. After all, this site is called "computerhelpforums.net" which does suggest it is more than just a Microsoft OS help forum..

 

What might sway the discussion in a favourable direction would be experts in Android, Linux, or any of the Apple OS's making themselves known as I'm sure you'll understand if we have a section we need people with the knowledge to answer questions in it.

 

I would be willing to try to help as I did run dual boot Windows and Linux machines for a while and I even have a client with a furniture store who uses a Linux Mint pc for ther owner's father (to keep him from screwing up their Windows pcs) that I service now and then but most of my experience crashed and burned because of issues with boot sector utilities and I was forever booting up the pc and finding the Linux OS was mangled or had vanished. I use Linux Live-cds often to check to see if the hard drive is causing the issues and prefer to use them also to remove files and data from damaged drives where it is so difficult to change permissions to access the files on a damaged hard drive.
