Is there any software or an easy way to place one small photo in the corner of a larger photo then save this as a new image. For example I have a pic of my dog taken from distance & would like to place a smaller but close up face image of him in the top corner.
Is this possible for a novice like me?

    Hi Tony.
You need a free photo editing software that has "Layers"to allow you to do that.
That means you can put one photo on top of the other.

Means a learning curve with the software you choose.

Paint.net is free and has layers.

Watch paint.net YouTube tutorials to learn quickly.

A resolved question I know but a program worth mentioning is Xara Photo & Graphics Designer. This can import multiple photos on the same layer. Each photo can be resized/edited in its own space by clicking and dragging the corners. Click and drag to move or rotate any of the photos around too. Photos can be arranged top to bottom in any order. The screenshot below shows how the whole workspace can be used for editing photos but to get them to print, they do have to be placed on the paper (left).

Xara P&D doesn't have some of the in-depth features of other photo editing programs but it's still a very capable editor that makes many operations easy to do. I use it most of the time:
