    Hi Bob,

    Do you have the 'Get Windows App' in the taskbar of this laptop?
    If so, you can use that to determine whether your system will have any conflicting items.

    If you don't have the app showing, you may need to run the windows updates to get any missing updates.

    Hi Bob, to be safe and able to be sure of being able to return to Windows 7 should Windows 10 fail to install, (Happened to me)
    I would recommend making a full image of the laptop onto an external hard drive plus a rescue disk to make sure the image can be reinstalled.
    Any problems with that just ask.

    You can always revert back to Windows 7 from Windows 10 if you do it within thirty days of the upgrade.

    Otherwise, I would suggest making an image file or cloning the hard drive using Macrium Reflect first, as Nev suggested.

    Tried that thanks CG no joy.
    As I said earlier this is a spare lap top I would not be using for anything except experements.
    I would now like to turn it back to a factory reset/or clean our everything and reinstall windows 7 from scratch.
    read up on google but found it to confusing

    If you press the F10 key on boot, it should take you to the recovery options, Bob.

    If F10 takes you to the boot screen, then you may want to try F5.
    Did this Compaq come with Windows 7 installed or a different OS, Bob?

    I have decided to stop trying to install W10 on this compaq.
    Main reason it only has 2G and although it WILL work I am sure at a push I dont think I would be learning how w10 works.

    Makes sense you really need a lot more ram for 10 to run properly, and for now with all the issues out there with 10 give them more time to fix it anyway.
