I have asked similar question before but came to no decision and made no progress. Wonder if anyone knows of an organization or place that takes old desktops, monitors, keyboards for disposal. An will come to house and pick them up for I do not wish to carry them up and downstairs and drive them all over. They are 4 desktops and CRT monitors windows 98 and SE from 1998 up and not even used for years. They are taking up space,I do not really see a point in trying to sell them and I have always been careful not to put secret, harmful, sensitive data or material on them. I do not wan tto disassemble and figure out what and where the hard drive is and smash it up. I suppose I could probably figure out how to reformat it to erase the hard drive but am unsure how at the moment. Basically just want to get rid of them. With as little trouble as possible. Anyone have any ideas??????

I'm pretty sure that you won't find any organization that needs computers that old, Bill.
Between outdated hardware and old, unsupported operating systems, they won't do anyone much good.

Guess I could just call the trash disposal company which I believe has a pickup for old electronic equipment. Have two W-7 and one W-10 laptop and do not even use the old desktops anymore,

You will have to pay to get rid of CRT monitors just like very old tvs. No one will take them for free.
Fortunately, I've been e-cycling before the fees were charged. BestBuy used to take things for free.

Our GoodWill is not accepting donations of anything. People have been cleaning out during the pandemic so they have no place to store all that people want to donate.

Is it diffficult to upgrade a Windows 7 Dell or Gateway laptop to a windows 10 or newer?

It depends on the model from my experience. Sometimes it's easy other times not so easy. With laptops sometimes because of the proprietary nature of how the software was implemented (H.P, Dell, Acer etc.) you might lose the full functionality of something like your touchpad or bluetooth but if (for example) it was eligible for a Windows 8 upgrade and there were Windows 8 drivers for the unit available 8 times out of 10 it can be upgraded to Windows 10 and commonly you can use a specific Windows 8 driver for the unit if the Windows 10 upgrade broke something (like bluetooth or synaptic touchpad or a certain audio driver) like soundmax that has a fully configurable audio control panel.
