Late last night I was casually watching YouTube when I heard a loud noise similar to a circuit breaker tripping and my monitor went black. It quickly came back but my computer did not. I opened the side panel to find no physical damage but an odd odor, but decided to look in the morning. It now is a less strong odor (wasn't very strong before) and I seems to come from the CPU region. No luck starting it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Hi. The only time I have heard a noise like that is when a Power Supply gives up completely all of a sudden.
I had a PSU pop on me about a week ago. One minute working and the next, completely dead.
Another thing to check, is have a close look around the 24 pin ATX connector on the motherboard for burn marks.

    1. And if it happens to be a "Bestek" power supply, the motherboard and RAM may also be damaged.
