I thought that my settings would enable one update notification each day, but I am getting several e mails for each topic. I had over thirty e mails waiting this morning. Are my settings incorrect please, and if so how should I configure them? Or is there a bug?

I had that setting on another forum with the same system as this and it didn't work. I will give it a try though, and thanks for the interest.

Not sure what the issue is at the moment.
Personally I don't use Notifications as it clogs my mail box.
I just click on "View New Content" at the top of the Index page and it gives me all the current postings.

Is there an issue then? What is the correct setting to either ensure on reply per post, or on digest per day please?

In answer to your question Andsome, I don't know if there is an issue with the forum software at the moment (If that is what you meant).

I see by the image you have linked to that you have your Topics & Posts preferences set with all the boxes checked. Personally I just have the first, second, and fifth boxes check marked...And also set to "Immediate".

Obviously, if a member is in the habit of replying to a great number of Topics each day...then a large number of emails can be expected when the preferences are set to be notified of just about everything.

We can't have our cake and eat it as well...

What I would suggest reduce the number of emails you receive...is to use the "View new content" button, and cut back on what you receive notifications for.

This is really a reply to several posts and not just this one. Our software responds as we have set it t respond.within the parameters of the the permissions and settings offered by the publisher.

The way you set the notifications is up to you. If you feel you are being inundated by email then you may want to stop email notifications altogether. Personally I get no email whatsoever and want it that way. The first thing I do is check new content and read everything. I simply don't need to be notified.

You can also stop subscribing to every thread and that will stop the email except for those that you feel so strongly about that you want to see email.

I have noticed one thing andsome and feel that it applies to you and to others. I have been to a site where you belong and notice that they seem to put a lot of importance on post count. We have always felt that was meaningless and pay no attention to it. There are some automatic title changes based on post count that is default with the software. I think we will take a look at that soon and remove it.

At the end of the day, we only make changes to the settings if we feel there is a real need. I see no problem in this area.

Since this thread or topic deals with a particular issue of yours, I also want to stress that you need to get a handle on the business of copying whole posts in to the next post. The Quote button is a built in annoyance that we can't go make away. If you are responding to a particular part of what someone else had to say then please learn to isolate that specific part of a post and quote only that. In the past we have put posts into moderation so that we can cull out only what is necessary for the member to make his/her point. I really don't like doing that.

I have a bit better understanding now. If you subscribe to a topic and there are several replies you will get an email for each one. If you intend to be a regular visitor you will be better served by only subscribing to posts where you are actually in need of an answer and then get your emails only on those.

As I said, I subscribe to (or follow) nothing. I do not need email because if I am checking my email then I am always checking the forum as well.

As for the quote thing, yes that is much better. What I have done or am about to do is play with the spacing so you can see how it can work better. You can do that yourself next time.

You can also just do what I have done. What you did i post the entire quote and then edited it. If you only need one part then you can isolate it by highlighting and pasting and then highlight again and use the quote button. That will not show the name of the original poster thought. Also if you use an entire quote so it shows the name you can edit out what is not needed for your reply. See my next post.

Sorry that this comment is off topic but the above is not accurate unless IP Board is totally different than most forum software. It should not be a major issue to edit out the button.

<edit> May have to retract the above. I just took a look and don't see an obvious template directory and the PHP seems to be encrypted. </edit>

If the Quote button is disabled then no one can use the Quote Button, not even Admin and staff.
Admin and staff need the Quote button to do their job effectively.
