Sorry if this a dumb ?, but, I recently received a notice on my computer about upgrading to norton internet security 2009....
I just want to be sure it would be a good idea to upgrade as Norton seems to be working OK as it is and dont want to risk more problems!
Can anyone advise me if they have done the same and should I do it? I run Windows XP SP3.

ps - please dont say get rid of Norton, I know folks love it or hate it but I am sticking with it until I get a new pc.

    Many thanks
    Lillyann

To be honest I am one of the 'hate' Norton people.
If you have to pay for the newer one then DONT - you can use AVAST which is free and will give you more protection.

Basically if you have to pay for it - save your money

Well said and I agree with you completely. There are free alternatives to Norton that work better than Norton. I too am one of those "hates Norton" people.

Personally I sort of agree, However in some ways you get what you pay for, now free is good and they normally prevent infection and remove most really well,

But you get them free as they are away of collecting information about unknown or new viruses, so that the people that pay get better protection and removal.

swings and round abouts really but as I have more sense than money, especially at the moment, free works for me. apart from that I have a full version of pc tools internet security registered free for 12 months :D

Norton is one of the most commonly used AV around the world and for that reason it is targeted for viruses and such - the same as windows is to Linux - not many people target Linux as you can target a wider audience with Microsoft

Most people know this is the case yet still use Windows

my gripe about Norton and alike, is its my computer not my softwares computer, and it really annoys me when I find things changed moved altered by anyone let alone software.
