I performed a clean windows 8 install on my asus essentio cm6730-uk020s and now I have been left with no wireless functions and after 2 days searching and downloading drivers and 2 more clean installs seemingly no way of fixing this.

The network controller is flagged under other devices in the device manager and I have no real way of telling what the wireless card is. The official drivers on the website do nothing. I'm almost positive it's realtek as the network adapter is a realtek pcie gbe family controller.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hardware ids of the unknown network controller is:
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8821&SUBSYS_21611A3B&REV_00
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8821&SUBSYS_21611A3B
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8821&CC_028000
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8821&CC_0280

From what I can see there are 2 possibilities for wireless drivers here:
    http://www.asus.com/Desktops/Essentio_CM6730/#support
Make certain you do the chipset driver first before doing any other drivers.
At that link click "dirvers" and then put in Windows 8 and you will see all the drivers.
You can try to install both as only the right one should install.

thanks for the reply but I'm still having no luck. No wifi card detected.

I'm genuinely shocked, I'm beginning to think it's unfixable without out returning it which is heart breaking as it seems like such a simple issue and I've exhausted possibilities

Oh that's a different problem. Have you tried another wireless device to make sure the router is working properly. Asus has some motherboards that had a wireless adapter built into the board.
When you go into Device Manager under Networking, what is listed?

    under network adapters listed is:

    Bluetooth device (personal area network)
    Bluetooth device (rfcomm protocol tdi)
    Microsoft kernel debug network adapter
    realtek pcie gbe family controller

and under other devices is my flagged network controller

yes all other wifi devices work, 4 phones, 2 laptops and a ps3 all connect fine.

Since this is built in wireless to the board the only possible problem is it no longer works so if you can return unit you should or simply buy a usb wireless adapter.
I just had an odd one though I would have said the same thing to where wireless on an IBM laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) stopped working and I did everything you have done and also could not get 3 wireless usb adapters
to show up either. I did a clean install of Windows 7, the unit had had XP on it and the wireless was fine in Windows 7 so it could be somehow a botched install of Windows 8 and as much as I hate to suggest it you might want to try again.
How did you do this clean install either recovery partition or with Windows and driver disks and did you reformat with this install (there is a difference and a "clean instal" requires a re format which the install does not default to).
For the life of me I cannot explain why that worked either. When you do a clean install, did you start with the chipset driver on the motherboard driver phase of this as you should?

From the PCI and DEV info, this appears to be a Realtek RTLE8821E Wireless card. ASUS's site doesn't show this came with your computer. Have you by any chance replaced the wireless card?

Right Tony but unless I read this wrong there is nothing showing a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager that could accept or refuse a driver for wireless and this came with a wireless adapter built into motherboard as Asus and Msi have been playing with those for a few years now so it isn't a driver issue its rather a non functioning device for which there appears to be no on off switch. On a laptop we would be looking for a way to turn the wireless adapter on but built into the board...wait a minute.....skikes why not look in the bios and see if by chance there is a wireless or network adapter turned off by accident or even reset bios to optimum default settings if you don't see one and see if it then is found.
It would not be the first time a "keystroke" hit by accident disabled something in the bios. Or maybe look at Asus site to see if a bios flash has a fix for a network issue.

    Thanks for the reply guys!

I finally managed to get it fixed. A guy in another forum managed to locate the right driver for me. It would seem the advertised hardware was wrong. So relieved :D
