I've just come by a 'gaming' PC and am looking for a decent City Tycoon type game that my machine will run comfortably. When I use the Can I Run it website, I seem to be failing on my graphics card for most games.

Apparently it's a ATI Radeon HD 5450 - which means absolutely nothing to me - so would appreciate any recommendations for decent SimCity type games that will run on it.

    Thanks in advance.

By the way, perhaps I should mention that I didn't set out to buy a gaming PC. I just needed a new, cheap machine, and this one just happened to be of a gaming spec.

Could you please list the make/model of your newly acquired PC? Then list all the hardware components.....detailed as possible.

Not sure I would know how to get all that info, but I could copy & paste the findings from the Can I Run It website if that helps?

I'm still not sure what info I should be sharing, even with Speccy, so I'll try and decipher myself.

    OS is W7 with SP1
    CPU is AMD
    It has two 465GB HD
Graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 5450 (XFX Pine Group)
    8GB RAM

Click the plus sign in my avatar....you'll get a drop down menu and you will see my system specs. Follow that information and do likewise.

Games have specific requirements to play it with satisfaction (good gaming results). Which is a combination of CPU cores/speed and GPU with enough built in RAM and it's speed. Whinc inturn has to be powered by a decent PSU.

With the results you're getting from the "Can I run" website.....those games need a better GPU or you won't have a pleasant gaming experience.

This is why I've always avoided PC gaming in favour of consoles. PC gamers are always banging on about how much better PC games are - and performance wise I have no doubt this is true - but those same people will never ever acknowledge what a complete and utter pain in the arse PC gaming is.

I just want to play a decent city-building game on my PC - there's a shop near me that sells used PC games dirt cheap - but there's no point me going to look at these games as I have no idea which of them I'll be able to run.

Look on Steam and Origin for Sim City PC games.....as I recall they don't need much in the way of high end hardware to play them. Then see what the system requirements are for them and compare to what you have.

Bottom line is you need to check each game specifications for PC play. Whereas console gaming, that is no longer an issue and as a result the quality is subpar. Not so much now with the new PS4 and Xbox One....with each new console iteration, they are achieving better and better graphics and overall quality.

Thanks for all your help everyone. bassfisher I will certainly check Steam. Thanks.

Anyway, I chanced it and bought the Tropico box set for a fiver. To my delight, when I checked the CiRi website for the latest one on there (Tropico 4 - Modern Times) I got two big green ticks for minimum and recommended and the following message:

After all that, I come to insert my Tropico disc to discover my tower doesn't have a CD tray / drive :bnghd:

Thanks, people. I'm going to call a few PC shops tomorrow and see if they have any USB drives in stock. I've just checked amazon.uk and they start around £9.

    Thanks, Rich :)
