On my Android 6.0.1 phone (don't laugh please), to text someone from my Contact list I would

    1) Search for the contact and click on the intended recipient
    2) Once their contact info was displayed, I would click on the Text icon associated with the mobile phone number.
    3) A new text message would be created with the recipient already entered in the proper field
    4) I would start typing in the message and click on the Send icon

    Now ...
When I do steps 1 and 2, step 3 has changed.
It does start a text message, only the recipient field is now blank. I have to again search for the recipient and click on their name to enter it into the field.

I've shut down and restarted the phone. Problem persists.

Any thoughts on how correct this?

    Thanks,

I'm not laughing because I running the same version on my android phone. I send very few texts so give me time to test this.

Sorry but I can't reproduce your issue. The name stays up and when I send it is there.

I checked my messages and it was sent.

Perhaps you can try typing the message first, then adding the recipient after the message is typed.

I also found this about clearing the cache
    https://www.lifewire.com/clear-cache-android-4157780
but that might wipe at all the text messages and you might not want to do that.

    I can't help even a little bit.
My text messages don't do that at all.

Thanks plodr and Cindy for trying. I cleared caches. No joy.

Mine does the same as Cindy's.

You might have to post it on the manufacturer's forum.
