Any good PC laptops recommended? See at Dell.com brochure Inspiron 15 3000 series for 199.99. Doesnt have to have everything, but wireless, a few USB inputs, would be nice. Havent studied it yet. Was originally thinking of a low price Lenovo, Asus but havent really looked. Mainly for wife to use, but in case I use it would like it to be acceptable. Modern OS & low price and 15.6" screen are basic desired things. Any will be fast and modern I guess.

Many of the Inspiron 15 3000 series I see today are Celeron or Pentium processors. I'd rather have an i5 or i7. But at $200, you have really nothing to lose, especially if you're only going to use it occasionally for email and Internet browsing.

Personally, I don't like those 15" machines because they are bigger and heavier than I prefer. I'd stick to a 14" model. However, if you're looking for a desktop replacement, they're fine. But then, I'd go with a better processor. That's just my preference, yours may be different.

Exactly-just looking for cheap W10 & wireless to access ultra modern sites. Not too particular about other details but a CD/DVD writer would be good. Problem even with windows 7 is some sites dont even work with that and want you to update things. Will be Have a Dell inspiron 5040 and could use a bit more weight. Any tips on how to get a head start on cybermonday-new to this. Thought I could try website a little before 8 am and also dial the phone and go with whatever answered first.

Cybermonday = Cyberscam. As I suspected, but had to see, this is basically just another bait and switch. If even had such an offer and PCs existed, they were sold out on Black Friday and at start time on cybermonday offer started out expired. I dont believe there ever was such an offer and if there was they sold all they cared to on Friday. I didnt check early Friday so dont know if offer was there at 299, but the 199 offer never was there though pictured and not active and as soon as active it was Expired/sold out/grayed out at even before 8AM and after. My first and last Cybermonday experence. Will buy something later at my choice and unlikely to be a Dell. Live and Learn. Never participated in Black Friday either.

Was this on the Dell website, BG? If so, I'm not at all surprised!

In my opinion for low range Laptop ASUS is the best. Are you looking for a Laptop less than $199? If, then I suggest you to increase your budget. Otherwise you won't be able to get good Laptop.

Actually I was thinking of a Lenovo with W10, wireless capability, some USB jacks, maybe a digital camera card reader although I have a USB one. Most will have DVD/CD read/write ability I suppose and I dont need much else. Mainly the windows 10 would help me get to these ultra-modern sites that my 5 PCs dont seem good enough for, although there are only a few sites I want to and cannot access.
Mainly it is for my wife to use so not chained to w98 and XP desktop and allow use in other rooms with wireless network with these few sites.
Thinking of around $300-400,but saw these sales and the first seemed never to have existed and after saw this didnt want to pay more. 199 was good even though have a Dell and it is not my favorite. Saw Acer and Asus in stores but dont know much about them from a tech standpoint and the ones I have seemed to be adequate for myself. Have an Acer monitor but find the instructions for the basic settings rather difficult, especially with the dual-function buttons. In fact never did learn to even adjust the brightness before getting frustrated and giving up. black buttons on black casing with black engraved lettering. Ready to start some serious looking now and will check out the Asus if you think it is good .

I have Windows7 and get any site I wish.
If you get Windows 10 you will be pulling your hair out.
It is a huge learning curve from Windows7 to Windows 10.
Windows 10 won't do anything better than Windows7. A fraction faster that's all.
Every time you open Windows 10 you will have to sign in unless you tweak it.
    Don't say I didn't warn you.:)
For what you use a computer for Windows7 will do fine.

Asus is good but I would stay away from Acer, BGBG.
Although I have several Acer monitors and really like them, I've found Acer laptops to be cheap junk.

Have noticed that most new ones I see have windows 8.1 or 10. I just assumed 10 would work better and sites would be designed for them but I can do most everything I want or need to do on XP and 7. I assumed if bought new it would already have 10 on it. 7 was difficult after XP but I am getting used to it now. Except for the one site I mentioned somewhere, I have never had a site fail to get past the sign in to the other pages. Whether or not I buy there, Best Buy is likely where I would go to see and touch the actual thing. At Walmart which is nearby but not as big a selection usually start around $350. My present ones are Gateway and Dell for laptops and Compaq for older desktops. Mainly was looking for a brand recommendation then go to store to look them over.
The brands likeAsus and Lenovo seem less cost than the HP,, Gateway, Dell. I dont need a lot more than the basics.

See Best Buy has a Lenovo 80L000H2US at 329.99. Think I would want 15.6" screen, 3 USB ports, Windows 10 just because it is current. wouldnt necessarily buy it at Best Buy but need to see first then read about it if buy online. May look at Walmart .com and see what they have and could pick up at store. havent really decided how to go about it. First I need to look at some.

If you'e interested in Lenovo, they have an outlet for refurbished, scratched and dented and a couple of other categories. Usually very good pricing.

I just thought that if you buy a new computer it would automatically have windows 10 and no choice, and windows 10 might in some way be better or more desirable for some reason. dont like idea of signing in and definitely would find out how to tweak it. PC is not for me but for wife who has even fewer needs and less knowledge. For me, XP and 7 do all I need it to. And if you keep it awhile sites and things begin asking you to update everything. I was happy with 98se to tell the truth. Except it seemed to crash a lot. Still have my original 1998 desktops and they still do most things. Dont use much though since have two XP's and a 7.

You can buy a new computer with W10 and your wife will be completely lost and won't be able to find most things.
I gave my wife a new computer I built with W10 on it and in 20 minutes she said to put windows7 on it or she told me what I could do with it in no uncertain terms so I rolled back to W7 and now she is happy.
You can still buy new computers with W7 on.
ebay is your best bet to look for el-cheapo computers.

Asus and Lenevo make good computers. Asus being my first choice.

I like 7 now that using it. Wife doesnt have high level needs but I would be be new to 10 also, and I dont know any real reason why I should get windows 10 except if it is already on every computer I consider. Dont want a used or refurbished either, so are new W7 laptops really available and is 7 really abetter choice if they are? Had my Dell since 6-11-2012 and except for a hair-trigger super sensitive touchpad I can find no way to disable, and a drifting, wandering cursor that puts typed text all over the place it and W7 seems fine. I taped a thumbtack-cardboard over touchpad and only the key-typed errors remain...drifting text and cursor have gone away.
I am hearing Asus may be good from several sources, while Acer is not a great choice. Might lean toward Asus if can find one. What about W 8 or 8.1?
Getting scared of 10 now. Dont hear much good or improvements but lots of drawbacks. And I cant think of anything I for sure know it will do better. Just thought I would have no choice.
I guess I should ask is there anything a windows 10 computer would have on it that a 7, 8, or 8.1 would not, like a browser, software, hardware, etc. I am no seeking a 10 but like I say thought I would not have a choice. mainly want a laptop that has wireless capability and can connect to internet sites. Maybe plug in a flash drive, printer, scanner, memory card reader. Will start looking at Asus now at eBay, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. See what is available.

Why would anyone buy or want to buy a windows 10 unless it just happened to be there or they knew nothing about it? Is there any real practical purpose? I havent done much on my 98se PCs lately but I feel sure they would do most anything I need or want to do now. Except for browser IE6. They are all on high speed FiOS now and I have Opera, Firefox, and Chrome latest possible.
Guess main reason for laptop is moving it from room to room. Dont need MS office or other fancy software. Would just as soon NOT have to learn to use windows 10 or sign on to it every time. Am really getting scared to get it.
    Is security or privacy better?

You can configure W10 so that you don't need a password to 'get into' your machine.
If you're just going to use the machine for Internet access, you'll be fine. Open up a browser and go at it. That works for the casual user. Now, if you're going to mess around 'under the hood', it'll be different than what you're used to.

I would expect just internet sites and search. Mainly for wife since I dont need it. Power up, connect to site, do work, shut off. Even printing can be done by transfer to flash and do where printers are.
I am coming to conclusion there is no reason to read reviews which can be true, made-up, and not even apply to me anyway, or put a lot of time, study and worry into this. Just go to Best Buy, look at and decide what I like, and buy it there or online free shipping if cheaper. Low price PC will likely be all I need or want and must live with it it like the rest.
Actually have 6 working computers now and never did much more research and study on any but maybe the first and all turned out OK and still work fine within their age limitation. I worry too much.
