I recently got an HP All in One with Windows 8. I have updated to Windows 8.1, downloaded programs which I use, made the changes to be more like 7 and have become just a bit familiar with it.
HOWEVER.. something happened andit is sooooo slow, takes ages to move to a new page. I did have several yellow backed messages about Flash, one saying that it was not responding. I have tried to find out how to delete Flash and reinstall but have not been able to do that. Do you think that it is possible that a problem with Flash could cause the computer to be so slow??? I also noted that the Flash is for 32 bit, my computer is 64. Can the 32 one work on the 64? I did not put it on there, it was there with a lot of other junk.
    Thanks for any input.

A new computer shouldn't be a pain to use. Was it working well when you got it? If so, when did it slow down?

How much RAM is in that machine?

While at it, what model is it?

Edit Did not see Dragnet's post

Hi Patsy. I haven't a clue what a HP all in one is.

We need make and model Laptop/Desktop.

Exactly what changes did you make to be more like Windows7? In detail please.

Are the programs you installed and drivers compatible with Windows8 x64 bit?

Get into Safe mode (tapping F8 continually on boot) and see if your computer is more responsive when using your computer.
My guess wrong drivers are installed at this point.

Install Revo Uninstaller free version, delete Flash Player then go to Adobe website and install correct version of Flash Player.

    Revo Free.

Hello and thank you both for your replies.

The computer is HP All In One which means it is a desktop, slim with less cords everywhere, all there like a laptop. Cordless mouse and keyboard. Model is HP 23-b320. It has 6:00 of ram, processor is AMD E2-200

I really don't know if the drivers are compatible or not. I already have put Revo Free on and have uninstalled a few things that I did not want.

I put on Classic Shell and that seems to work well and makes it more like 7.

I don't think it was fast from the beginning....there was so much there that was unfamiliar and I did think it was not responding instantly like this computer does. However, I have a wireless network, this computer is upstairs and has an antennae, the new computer did not have as many bars, indicating that the signal was weaker. So, I took the new one downstairs to see if that helped. Now it has three or four out of five bars to show the strength of the signal.
I connected to my wireless network and all three computers seem to see each other and respond, so that seems ok.
I did put a purchased Solitaire Suite on....one that I have on this computer, but which could not be on the other one as well. I notice that the download came from CNET, which I NEVER use anymore. I think it might have been slower after I put that on AND I have something on there called My PC Backup. I did not put that there and I thought it came from Norton which was installed and which I intend to get rid of as soon as I get everything working. I will stick with MSE, Malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware.

I put Chrome Browser and Firefox on, plus Animation Shop....that is an old program....maybe that could be bothering?
Should I uninstall My PC Backup??

I will go down and try safe mode and see what happens.

Probably enough said. Thank you for your time.

Let's step back for a moment. I re-read your post. You said that it is so slow to load a new page. In another post you mentioned wireless signal strength. The speed of your Internet connection is dependant on a few things including signal strenght when connecting wirelessly.

I don't hear you complaining about the speed of the machine when it comes to things like opening documents. At this point, I will assume (until you say otherwise) that the machine runs properly when doing things that are not Internet related.

If that's the case, and you're connnecting wirelessly, check your wireless signal strength. The more bars, the faster it will be loading new pages. To rule out wireless connectivity problems, connect your computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable.

    Thanks for your input.
Last night someone worked on my computer and found MALWARE....lots of it. She said it came from that Shell that I downloaded. Fortunately, I think it is clean now.
I know my signal is not a strong as it should be, only four bars instead of five. I might just have to go back to using a range extended.

Four bars out of five is pretty good. Malware and cause problems with connection speed, Hopefully, it's cleared out.

What are you using for malware protection?

    Hi,

I have Malwarebytes, and last night got HitMan Pro. It is much speedier but not as fast as this one...this one has five bars and is two flights of stairs up from the router. The tower has a small antennae on it and I am trying to find one on Amazon to use with the new computer.
I just hope everything keeps working smoothly. I still need to copy files but get that "access denied" so have to fix that.

Hi....thanks. I did check that out. I changed something after reading it....now I am copying files. It is taking a VERY long time for them to copy. Hope this is normal.

Just a suggestion. The download sites we get things from often are loaded with spyware enablers and you have to be so careful what you are really downloading.
Classic Shell is great but you have to realize that when you add back a start menu to Windows 8 you are slowing it down dramatically because in addition to the Metro/Start desktop you are now adding a regular desktop so that is 2 and that also impedes running of the pc. That is why you have to tell us how much memory you have and you can do it easily using this which will tell you about the whole system:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_speccy/ . One thing I have discovered if you can work without Classic Shell the pc will boot and move faster and really help is on the way because 8.2 will have the start menu and desktop back as an option. Either that or use Stardock8 which is $4.99 but does not really slow the pc nearly as much IMHO. http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

Thank you, Rich-M for your reply. Sorry I did not get back here sooner.
I am usually very careful about what I download and usually scan it before I install it. However, I guess I was overwhelmed with Windows 8 and then 8.1, so made the mistake.
Anyway, I do not have Classic Shell now and the computer is still not as fast as this old one with Windows 7 on it. I have succeeded in getting a plug in (USB) range extender and I have five bars and the computer is up two flights of stairs from the modem/router. This is where it will stay.
The computer has 6:00 GB of Ram, 5:58 usable. The processor is AMD E2 -2000 APU with ....1/75GHz. Is there anything I can do to make the thing faster????
There are eight optional updates available....five are for Windows 8 drivers. Should I update those even though they are optional? The others are for Bing and I don't use that, so maybe they are not necessary. Could these other drivers make things go faster????
    Thanks for any advice.

No need to apologize and I doubt any drivers will improve your performance and I wouldn't do Windows driver updates anyway. The processor is rather limiting I'm afraid normally I like 8 gb ram in an All-in-one but I don't see a lot of difference between 6 and 8 unless your Ddr 3 ram is 100 or 1333 then a move to 8 Gb 1600 ran would make a difference. One thing I always do is maximize startup by removing everything except Anti Virus and AntiMalware, all-in-one printer Java updater and that's it. If you are using a third party Antivirus like Norton, MacAfee or Trend Micro you can ditch that for WD internal Antivirus.
Another thing I recommend is to go to Bleeping Computer site and download and run Adw Cleaner and Junkware Removal Tool which will get somebloatware out of your system.

Thanks, I did look at those sites but did not download yet.
The computer came with Norton but I uninstalled it within a few days. I have Windows Defender, HitmanPro, Malwarebytes, and CCleaner on there at the present time. I usually install SuperAntispyware but have not put that on yet. So, do you think I should still download one or both of those you mentioned. I assume they are free unless one wants to donate something???
I have uninstalled numerous things on that Metro thing hoping that would speed things up. I don't do music, except some of my own CDs which I have not put on there. I don't do the games with a lot of graphics, uninstalled something called Wild Tangent which HP put on there. I play some word games, mostly on my Kindle Fire HD, and I play solitaire on the computers. I bought SolSuite. So, I was thinking if I did not do a lot of the things that are resource hogs, the computer SHOULD be fast like this one!! I hope it will speed up somehow! Must check the start up.
Do you think Java is safe now???? Firefox disabled it on this computer and I disabled it on husband's computer. Did not check to see if it is on the new computer. I am just going slow trying to learn more about it. Don't need all that STUFF!!
    Thanks for your help!

Forgot to mention....I did a TrendMicro House Call on the new computer and it found nothing.

Java is fine, just keep it up to date. Those two programs I gave you are just one shot scanners, nothing remains and you can delete any logs. I would not be running CCleaner as it has a reg cleaner in it and the harm that does to a pc, we can't fix. What that can do could even be some of the cause of the slowness. Even if you disable that, there is no real reason to use the rst of the program IMHO anyway. Better to try "ATF Cleaner" or Old Time "OTC" though removing what they do isn't really going to help. Hitman Pro could be of more value lately than Malwarebytes but I find WD again IMHO useless, and much prefer Nod32 for Antivirus.
