    Hi all,

Just wanted to ask a few of the people on here what sort of network they use, speeds they achieve etc and future projects :)

*Speed figures quoted apply to the moving of DATA from one PC to another and not the speed at which the internet runs at ;)

I have 50Meg broadband from Virgin Media connected to a Netgear WNR2000 Router, that then goes into a gigabit switch (as the 4 ports on the WNR are 100MB only  ) this is shared between my:-
Server and Dalo Main PC (I transfer most of the data from Dalo to Server and vice versa and achieve the MAXIMUM theoretical throughput of Gigabit which is 125MB* per second :D )

I then run a wire externally downstairs to another gigabit switch (to allow the use of 5 ports) and then this is distributed to:-
    PS3 (Gigabit Ethernet)
    XBOX 360 (100MB Ethernet - M$ keeping costs down  )

    And also
    2x Laptops (Wirelessly)
    1x Desktop (Wirelessly)

just wanted to see what other people have and if needed offer any guidance if required :)

Also Wireless G (which has a maximum of 54MB* per second)
and Wireless N (which has a maximum speed of 300MB* per second)

If Wireless 'U' follows the same upgrade path then you are looking at a maximum speed of 1.8GB* per second

Now there is a standard within networking called 'Fibre' that can utilise (2GB)/250MB* per second - it's a very old technology and I dont know of anyone that uses it, I don't plan on using it as it requires PCIX cards and a compatible switch (while my servers use PCIX my desktops do not)

I have much the same router as you Dalo. Netgear Wireless N 300 WNR 2000. I have three pc's connected with cables and the printer connected through WI FI. The Wii is connected wirelessly.
I find with this router for some reason it changes the pc which controlls it around for some strange reason, by that I mean one day my computer is managing it, the next its my wife's and so on so any help with that would be appreciated.

What do you mean the PC that manages it, you can manage the router from any of the PCs (you have to be connected via an Ethernet to get into the routers home page) 192.168.1.1 in your browser will give you the router home page and the default credentials are
    User - Admin
    Password - password

You can configure everything in there, but NO PC should be 'managing' anything?

When I try to log in to the routers homepage sometimes it tells me that the router is being managed from another pc (it takes turns between me, my wife and my son's pc) and will not allow the login from the wrong pc.
I have done a reset of the router and then set everything up the way I want it but if I need to enter the settings page again, I get the same message. It isnt as much of a problem as an annoyance.
I use Network Magic to control what is being shared etc.

It can only do that if you dont log out of the routers page at the very bottom on the left :)
Do you have the router dish out your IP addresses (fixed ones) with DHCP?
