New to computers but very excited about learning how to use them, I went out on a limb and got myself a Laptop running a Linux Operating system, call myself being different.

I had to laugh when you said "call myself being different". Aren't we all? But when it comes to computers, you see mostly Windows and Mac users. Oh, Hello and Welcome.

You'll probably see a note from IJAC. He runs Linux as his main machine. As for me, I have Mint on a machine that I use very infrequently.

Welcome. What "flavor" of linux is the computer running? Is is a laptop or a box?
I used to dual boot Windows and linux. Now I stick to android and a Chromebook, which run subsets of linux. They are easier to maintain than installing and updating distros.
