My Video Card

So my PC has the NVidia 960 model video card and I have a LG 24 inch flatscreen. I am mostly new to computer gaming, as I was an old school Atari guy many years ago. When I play EuroTruck I noticed that according to the FRAPS program that a friend told me to download that I can never seem to get above the 60 frames per second like he does and he has the same video card. Why won't it go past that? I was only curious it does nto seem to affect the game everything is really smooth I was merely wondering. Any thoughts?

The reason is probably V-Sync. There is most likely an option in the game to turn on or off V-Sync. V-Sync limits the frame rates to 60fps. If you turn off V-Sync the frame rates may go up but you could also introduce screen tearing. No real reason to go above 60 fps due to the limitation of the monitor.

Hello and thanks for the reply! I will look at vsync I believe I did see that in the settings somewhere. By screen tear you mean it looks like lines in it? or more like a not so clear image? anyway I will try disabling it and see what the difference would be. I did notice that even though my friends game had more frames per second that mine looked more "smooth" for lack of a better explanation. Anyway thanks again! Now off to test the difference.

FPS (frames per second) is subjective at best....reason being is: Not all PC's are exactly alike. Some enthusiasts OC (overclock) their hardware....ie CPU, GPU and RAM, which helps with the FPS in games. Then you have the monitors and flat panel TV's being used, which deals with the refresh rate...ie htz. All these components play a role in the FPS of a game.

That is some nice information bassfisher. My PC is a hybrid Dell XPS 8700. I still have the dell power supply and I thought that might be the issue but like I said the game is really smooth I was just wondering why it would not move past 60 frames. I did disable the vsync and it was a different game as the frames now went above 60 at times but there were graphical distortions, which I did not like, so I re-enabled the vsync and all is well. Thank you for your explanation that helped me understand what was going on!

Vsync is for screen tear....which enables smooth action from frame to frame. Same as on a flat panel TV....called motion blur which is corrected by the refresh rate....aka "Truemotion"

So far all is great Bassfisher I have been playing WoW and a few other games thanks for helping me with that! I keep vsync enabled usually all the time now I prefer a smooth experience over the higher frames per second. Amazingly this GTX 960 does really well in every game I have tried it with. I did not expect this from a $200.00 video card.

Oh well now this can get personal bassfisher....personally I have always preferred ATi cards for software and size.
Size is becoming problematic lately as they all are getting so damn big that almost nothing fits right in towers that are getting smaller and more cramped with their "stream lines" upscale looks.
