When I open any window in Vista it only opens about 2/3 width of my screen monitor with wide margins on each side. This is a new computer with vista. Everything is there...it's as though everything has been compacted into the center of the screen with no way to drag or widen it out.

    Welcome to CHF,Suzy.
What have you tried so far, to fix the Problem?
You can grab each side and carefully enlarge to proper Size, manually.
    Windows will remember the setting.
Other Option, is to select Menue, on the front of your Monitor,
Go into settings and reset Screen Size.
Your Monitor may have a restore option.
    HTH.

just to expand on when you drag the screen edges, use your mouse and go to the very furthest edges of the window, your mouse icon should change to a line with an arrow at either end a bit like this <--> hold your left mouse button and move the mouse in the direction you want to expand.
You can also use the minimize/restore down button that is in the top right next to the red X (close)

I have a feeling that there has been a misunderstanding here. Is it your entire display including your desktop that is not filling up the screen? If that is the case then it is either the resolution settings or on the monitor itself (probably resolution) This is easy to fix if that is the problem. Just give us a few details about your computer.

I don't think I exsplained the problem corectly. I have a full page on my monitor screen, but when I view a web page there are margins down each side in the same color of the web page. It is like the content was compressed from left and right into the center. My blog page now has words cut off in the middle and finished on the next line. It may help if you would log onto my blog and look at it. It is http://suzysbloomers.blogspot.com My blog looks this way on other computers and other blogs look this way on my computer, but other people say their blogs look fine on their computers. I'm not sure if it is a problem with my computer or with Blogger. Thanks, Suzy.

I do see what you mean (I think) but I am not the one to help you. Watch this space as others will.

    Hi Suzy

We are having some communication problems here :D

MSN is not really a browser do you mean that you are using Internet Explorer? Look at the very top when you log on to any website and that will tell you. But my guess is Internet Explorer. The question is which version. If you look at the top where it says "help" and click on it there should be a tab that says "About" It may say About Internet Explorer. Click on it and tell us what it says.

Bing is a search Engine like Google.

Don't let the lingo throw you. You will get there and we are happy that you found your way here so we can help.

Not a problem Jack, but the problem is still not all that clear. The page you are viewing right now should cover the entire page with narrow margins on each side. I am not talking about the index page which has a wide sidebar on the right. Is that what you see? If you know how to post a screenshot that would be helpful. If that is not what you see try what I suggest below. Certainly try it with the blog page.

In the meantime when you view a website that you think is wrong try setting the compatibility mode. Click on tools in the top menu and you should see a choice for compatibility view settings you will be given a chance to add the current website. Do that and see if it solves the problem. Your blog may simply not be compatable with Explorer 8.

It Might also not be related to the PC or a setting in windows but might be a monitor setting problem, so it might be useful to check the monitor settings, or post the make and model of the monitor and we will check to see if their are any settings on the monitor that may be causing the problem.

But I would doubt that being the cause if it only happens when you are accessing the internet.
